The next segment of our journal starts off at Lewis Canyon, where we left off in the last installment, and it makes its way to the infamous Pecos weir. We needed a place to take out of the river without having to paddle all the way down to the Hwy 90 boat ramp--and it looked like the weir might be our best hope. Man, what a story. Is there anything we can do to assist in searching for the owners of the ranch? I like research and, if someone could give me a starting point, I'd be happy to look into it.

Amazing the power of the water to mangle those trucks and move the rocks to almost bury the one! I was wondering if they'd be on the hook to remove them. You guys are going to way more trouble than I think I would to retrieve your boats. But the people you're meeting and the sights you've seen and shared with us...has me anxiously awaiting the next chapter on your journey/adventure. I really hope you find them and that they aren't ruined, but even if it doesn't turn out that way, it's been a heck of a story. Thank you guys for taking us along cheers

Another excellent story. I couldn't believe how much the water damaged those trucks and how much it will cost to get them out of the river. Looking forward to the next part of the story!

Thanks for the offer. Will send a PM shortly.

Would love to, Texguy, but I haven't written it all yet. You are seeing them as I write them. This particular entry, about our search, is the longest (four parts). The rest of the series will be one-part, stand alone pieces. There are so many stories that came out of the return trips it would take me a long time to write them. Right now they are all just notes scribbled into my notepad and a bunch of pictures on my hard drive. With a little time, and patience, they will become our Pecos River Journal.

Hindsight being 20/20, Jamie, I wish we hadn't spent so many of our resources in the search. But as you point out, what we lost in material possessions, we made up for in story ideas. That lower Pecos is one ornery b!tch...in other words, perfect writing material.

These stories are so interesting to read... and the photos are awesome. That shot of the schooling fish from the bluff is really cool.

I've enjoyed following your story, got half way through this one and realized I've been there. Continental ranch was developed as a rock climbing area and a buddy and I made a road trip out there from Houston around 10 years ago. We climbed down that steel ladder to get to the weir where he (a non-fisherman) proceeded to outfish me like 10 fish to 0. It's an incredibly beautiful and wild place.
