Ultra Light rod, small hooks, salmon eggs or manufactured trout bait, clear 4 or 6lb test line. <-- will that work?

I have a blog which has taught dozens how to catch the trout. Follow the instructions and it is a sure thing. See it here.

But it will be like fishing out of a backyard swimming pool.
That means the first weekend everyone will limit out on trout and they will be completely gone in about a week and a half.

Since they are only stocking Joe Pool once this year you may need to get there early just to get a spot to fish. I saw lines waiting for a spot to fish on some days last year when there were multiple stockings of the perch pond.

I have actually done really well on stocker trout with small power worms fished Texas rigged with a 1/0 hook, just like you would do for bass.

I would catch alot of trout like this while targeting bass.

Also small crappie jogs fished under a clear bobber works well.

Esp if the fishing pressure is high and the fish are dodging spoons and spinners bcs the banks are lined with anglers.

This works.

You can smoke them with Panther Martin inline spinners. Use the smallest one you can cast well. Yellow and black worked best for me, but experiment with color patterns until you find the one they like best.

I caught them on small black flies behind a float designed to use with flies.
Also caught a few using the fly pole but most city ponds are too crowded.

Anyone know what time of day they typically do the stocking?

If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

It depends on where you are. TFFC Athens has six stockings today: Tyler, Mesquite, Duncanville, Greenbriar Fort Worth, Hurst and Denton.

They leave Athens about 8AM. Figure driving time plus 30 minutes per stop to get the approximate time they will arrive at your pond.

Similar data is available for each hatchery if your pond is not stocked by TFFC.

TFFC showed up a little early and did their part. The trout did not. Three hours without a bite! I did not see one trout caught. Heck of a way to start the season.

They stocked at 2 PM at Central Park. I fished from 3:30 to 5:30. Same thing, nobody got a bite. Water was extremely dirty. I assume it will take some time to get adjusted before they start biting.

Great Article Butch. I saw someone fishing with the same setup and bait you listed. He also said it was by far the best bait to use.
