I'm headed down to Port Aransas Nov 20-23. I will strictly be pier fishing. What would you guys bring/use for that time of year? My gear isn't all that great. I'm thinking of picking up a nice reel/rod for the trip. I had planned on having 2 setups for live bait and 2 setups for jigging (flounder). I'm not aiming to only catch one type of fish, just want to have fun and get a couple fish. I was looking into the Shimano Stradic ci4 (probably the 4000) but can't choose a rod for it. If I want to mainly use this for light tackle/jigs, should I go with a jigging rod? There are so many options and I am so inexperienced. I want something good quality that will last me a good while. The Stradic ci4 is about as much as I want to pay for a reel, about the same price for a rod. Suggestions would be great. What setups would you take (and what would you take in your tackle box) to Port Aransas mid-November for pier fishing?!

Didn't think my post would be so popular... smile Ended up getting a Stradic ci4+ 2500 and St. Croix Avid 7ft fast ML. Went with Suffix 832 lime green 20lb. Will prolly put on 25lb fluoro leader material. Wanted something light as my other 2 setups aren't the lightest. Hopefully the fights outweigh the cost of the gear! Wish me luck down @ Port A in 2 weeks.

Flouro isn't really necessary.. do you have a pier gaff or net? Cause if you hook a big ugly or sheephead, well, heavy fish?

Wooo!
