Alright-been having good luck with Hot Dogs/Kool-Aid/Garlic! At times switching to Chicken Livers. Problem is the hooks are getting robbed! Baiting up late evening, soaking all night. Then in the morning 2-3 fish on with the rest of the hooks striped bare! Any suggestions? Not hip to gathering up live bait. The bait used must be easy to slip off is my best guess. Nylon wrap? cheese cloth? HELP! Me thinks the numbers would go up if I could solve this dilemma.

If you want something that will stay on the hook better, find a market that sells whole fish (we have Fiesta Markets in this area) and buy a whole, uncleaned carp, buffalo,or drum, and scale it real good, cut strips of meat with the skin still on it,and hook it thru the flesh side and out thru the skin. Bait snatchers will have a hard time getting away with that!

Try circle hooks with chicken hearts or gizzards.

I caught my personal best rod and reel flathead on buffalo eggs. And they are super hard to keep on a hook. So I take a light monofilament line and wrap it at least 5 times with a knot at each loop starting at the point all the way up the shank of the hook. Don't tighten the knot too tight cuz it will cut through the bait. But just tighten the knot til it's just touching the bait.i use 8/0 gamakatsu octopus circles and that method seems to work pretty darn good...hope this helps

I did find a fish market that carried uncleaned drum tho.

H Mart in Carollton, NW corner of PGB and old Denton rd had uncleaned buffalo around this time last year. Along with just about any other fish you may have wanted.

There is an Asian market in Arlington that carries about any fish you can imagine, they will gut it, scale it, and fillet it for you at no extra charge. Then all you have to do it chunk it into the size pieces you want and go. Carp Buffalo Goo fish you name it. Think they even had shad on a stick if your down with that.
Catch and release into the grease!

Thanks ya'll. I been thinking about cut bait. Gonna check out the markets this week. Chicken gizzards should hold tighter too.
