We received an E mail from Bruce Allen on oct. 3 and he said they were going to forego the 30 day test and instead do a three day test. If all went well, begin pulling out of Fork. Do any of you know if pulling water out of Fork has begun? It seems to us water is dropping. thanks

well, we wondering if they have started pulling water. thanks. wondering as we folks here on the water think that is why it appears level dropping. we need to get boats out and not sure how to do it with level dropping. If not pumping, the water level may come back up.....

If you are talking about getting boats out of a dry slip, Robert's Cycle in Emory offers that service.

A friend and business contact of mine lives on Fork near the SRA cove and he told me the same when he was here a couple days ago. He took his boat out of the slip already but that was a couple months ago. At least you still have ramp access as some were built in the first stage filling of the lake.

Get over it. It's a water supply lake first! Ill be the first to agree that Dallas has a poor watering policy, unlike NTMWA. We go back to once every 2 weeks as of Nov. 1.

Here are the Fork lake levels by weekly dates for last few months. I have been keeping them as I do a weekly project where I have to have the water levels. I have done this 3-4 years and the fall rates have been about the same each year of the month. I have yet to see any huge drops at all. The smaller gaps usually indicate rain that week when looking at these. Also if you look it up on the website you can go back days, weeks, months and years and find even more detailed and longterm information. Make your own assumptions if more is being pulled by the data.

10/22/14- 6.15 low
10/15/14- 5.91
10/7/15- 5.97
9/30/14- 5.80
9/23/14- 5.58
9/17/30- 5.32
9/10/14- 5.13
9/3/14- 4.90
8/27/14- 4.61
8/20/14-4.35
8/13/14- 4.07
8/6/14- 3.91
7/30/14- 3.90
7/23/14- 3.69
7/16/14- 3.67
7/9/14- 3.53
7/2/14- 3.40
6/25/14- 3.28
6/18-14- 3.18

It is my understanding that they are limited to so many acre feet per day.
And that is less than normal evaporation.

So you wont see a big drop level in a day, just twice as much as normal evaporation.
Also , there is no level that they have to stop pulling water.

But Dallas did put up the bucks to build the lake as a water supply.

3" in a week isn't evaporation with temps in the 70s/80s and medium humidity.

We've had almost exactly the same rate of drop in October, with average temps in the 70s, as we had in August with average temps in the 90s. Scientifically, it doesn't add up to assume there are no outside influences.

Look up same months for previous years for more history. If if differs from past years then something has changed recently.

I am just happy that even at 6+' low the lake is still easy to use. If we really want to complain about water use take a look at all lakes West of Dallas. Heck I know for sure Grapevine has had the gates open ALL year releasing water.
