I just got a new my me 2003 Triton 185 that has 2 Optima blue tops for the trolling motor. They appear to be dead due to sitting and not being charged. My question is what battery do you guys recommend that won't cost a fortune. I have been thinking of using AGM's but I don't really want to spend 600 in batteries. Tanks Pat

Agm's are heavy as heck too. Can you verify the optimas are out of date. Take them to a dealer and get them warrantied if you can. Even if they are pro-rated it could save u $100.

wal mart, get the grp 27 or 29 and don't look back.
I have run them for over 20 yrs and only 2 problems, both were warranty and no big deal. you will find that most batteries are made by johnson control including optima and wally world.
save yourself the money and hassle.

first thing you need to do (if you have not already) is hook up a regular charger to them, even better if it has a start mode.
hit one with the start mode for about 15 seconds then go to 10 amp charge, leave it for 12 hrs at least and come back and check for charge.

onboard chargers will not recognize a dead battery, they must have a certain voltage to start the charge cycle. if no charge on one after 12 hrs then it is time to replace.
