My wife and I are making a trip to Port Aransas general area for a few days. I'm not familiar with the waters there. Would I be better off in my Cuda or PA?

I took my PA down to Rockport earlier this summer and only had to paddle it a short distance. The mirage drive did make a huge difference with the tides and wind from the last time I went out when I paddled.

Depends on where you want to fish. I was there this past weekend and I have a PA. If you want to fish the flats the PA is not your choice. If you want to fish deeper water, say Wilsons cut or Shamrock then I would much rather peddle and fish the PA. Will say this we caught reds, snapper, and flounder fishing deeper and other kayakers fishing the flats told me they did not catch anything. Talked to some guys at the fish cleaning station and they beached their bay boat and wade fished Shamrock. They had an impressive haul of reds, specks and flounder. From what I was told the tides have been low and the flats have not been holding fish.

Your PA can be paddled or poled as well. No doubt the mirage drive is your prefered method but in shallow water you have other tools just like most kayaks. Your Cuda will probably paddle better but with a loss of stability and payload over the PA.....
If you are going to paddle your PA a bunch - you'll probably enjoy a longer paddle than the one that comes with the boat - 250cm or longer....

Thanks. Were you using artificial, live or cutbait? I'm mostly just wanting to enjoy some time outdoors with my wife. I get a kick out of seeing her catch fish though.

If you just want to catch fresh dead shrimp is the way to go. She will wear out a variety small fish. All of the bait I mentioned above were fished live. I net them then put them in a minnow bucket.

Where is a good place to put in in that area?

Why not take both? They could both be beneficial. I couldn't imagine poling a PA through some of the mud and shell up in the marsh systems that I frequent but fishing in any kind of current it is nice to have your hands free.....

Wilsons Cut. You can drive about 2/3rds down and launch at the gate.

Launch at the pin called "Shamrock Cove". To get there there's a gravel road about 1/4 mile south of Wilson's Cut (there's a small power substation and stop sign) and take it all the way back to the cut. You'll see some yellow gates, do not drive past them, and park off to the right along the cut.

Shamrock should have enough water for you to use your mirage drive, but you'll probably have to utilize the numerous cuts/channels to get around some of the flats.
