Ive been noticing that when i set my juglines i only catch fish on the juglines made with clear monofilament. The jug-lines i have setup with orange twine i have caught nothing.
I was always told catfish are not leader or tackle shy, apparently i am mistaken. I have 6 jugs rigged with orange twine and 4 that are rigged with the mono and this is the 3rd or 4th time i have unsuccessfully caught any fish on the jugs with twine while catching fish on the others.

I used black tar line on mine and my buddy used white line on his. His seems to catch more fish than mine, but I use circle hooks and he uses the cheapest hooks he can find. I don't know the reason that some catch fish and others don't, but I don't believe the line is the reason. I have been fishing with rod and reel and buddy using like equipment, bait, line, ect. One of us catch fish and the other don't. I can't explain that ether.

Has nothing to do with your line. Placement and timing is everything

Well i must be doing something wrong here. I have been fishing Texoma in the middle of the afternoon (i know its not the ideal time but i should still be catching fish), and been targeting fish in 20-30' fow. From what i have researched they should be staying deep during the day and coming shallow at night to feed. I have tryed drifting, i have tryed still fishing; i have fished coves, the river channels, flats...basicly anthing in the 15-35' fow range....what gives? Am i fishing too deep? I thought they would be near the thermocline in deep water. I use fresh cut shad when i can get it and that seems to make a difference but im still not hammering them like some of the guys on here do.

Most that fish a particular water body have done so for a while and or are out fishing these water bodies more than you may. And they may have a pattern on that body of water. My last trip to texoma seemed to me there are a lot of meat hunters there. I boated past a string of identical jugs and when I say string there were 30+ jugs in one area until I got to the next set. Which had just as many if not more. This may ruffle some feathers but if guys are doing that more and more then your fishing is effected by this. But to point how are you locating your fish? Random guess, spot you know? Electronics?

Two points on my personal experience. I catch a few more fish on mono drops. I quit using them because I lost more fish due to hook break off and break offs in brush etc.
I read a study on catfish movement in rivers a few years back. The researchers caught a higher percentage of catfish on monofilament drops than on nylon.
guess it depends. Whatever works for you.

Random guess, spot you know? Electronics? I look for creek and river channels, points, coves. I can't distinguish between a catfish and other species on my fish finder so normally i just use it for water temperature and depth when choosing a spot.

I have experienced the same just use a heavy mono leader Snell the hook for circle hooks it works better for me at least. I don't even use weights on my jugs and they work great!
Ill post pics later of my set up
