Try the smallest lure you have. The Shad on several of the lakes I have been fishing on have been very small. If you see large Shad coming out of the water my solution is not the problem. At that point I have no idea as to why they aren't biting.

Thanks. I don't have a great deal of variety in my tackle box with respect to size. They are either big or kinda big. :-)

I did not try my tailspinners. Good point. Thanks.
I have read and heard a lot about downsizing when nothing else is working.
Thats a good tip and I will try that.
Thanks.

I guess I wasnt using my noggin.
Apreciate y'alls feedback.

hideandseek,

I believe what you're seeing on your Graph is baitfish. We've not been catching many fish on the Main Lake for the past two weeks, but the bait is everywhere and if you're not comfortable with your Electronics, you think it's fish. The Sandies are not to be found in the AM on the Main Lake normal spots like Pelican Island, Flats, Windsock, etc. In the dead of Summer, we often move way up the Richland and Chambers Creek Arms and fish the Points, Humps, Ridges in 10'-15' water to find the fish. Even the live bait Guys are having it slow with the Hybrids, and no Sandies at all. I have heard of some Late PM schooling, but there's been none during the AM. Just tough lately! (What you're probably seeing are Carp, Gar and Trash Fish bustin' the water all morning long)

Happens every Summer that the fishing gets a bit tough for a while and then we get a little weather break like two weeks ago and the upcoming one this week, and the fish go crazy. Cloudy, Breezy,& Rain beats Bluebird, Calm and Hot everytime!

If you really want to figure out a pattern and bite, learn a lot about a 45,000 acre Lake and catch some fish, call one of the Guides on RC and you'll learn more in a half day trip on RC than you can learn on your own in a year. Adam and I fish year around, Bob Holmes is an excellent Artificial Guy, and the Guaranteed Boys do Live Bait. All are friends and good Guides!

Good Luck!

Thank you Royce. You are correct that I am not comfortable with my electronics.
Really appreciate your input.
Actually, I had been watching the moon a little bit during the last couple of weeks.
We had very little moon on Friday night.
My thinking was that with a real dark night, the night feeding may have been slow and the fish would feed more in the daytime.

I was out on Sat. on RC in the a.m. It was awful. At lunch my buddy and I drove to Cedar Creek where we wore them out. Several hybrids and somewhere around 150 sandies. Same lure, same techniques, different lake.

Interesting. Sort of reduces the apparent impact of solunar activity and places more focus on the body of water. However, there were some who had an awesome day on RC Saturday.

Monday was tough for my Son's Party with only around 20 Whites. Tuesday was better with limits on the Whites and a few small Hybrids. All on slabs and most in 15' of water or less. Lots of our fish are still coming from up the Creeks on Points, Dropoffs and Humps.

Didn't fish yesterday, but fishing the rest of the week. Hope this cool weather gets them more aggressive.

Good Luck!

Just a quick update on RC as the fishing has continued to be tough the past couple of weeks. We had a boat out everyday except Wednesday this past week and both boats out with Family Groups on Friday & Saturday. An average # of Keeper Whites was 25 per trip for the week. We had given the Friday/Saturday Customers an opportunity to cancel or reschedule as the Catchin' is Tough, but the Fishin'is Good! Well...both decided to come and the Catch was 51 and 42 Keepers respectively for the two trips. This was for two boat Party's of eight Kids and Adults each day. Friday's Group of New Customers said it was one of their BEST days ever and Saturday's Group of Regulars had a Ball but was more used to the 100 fish days of the Spring and Fall. Both were glad they decided to fish. Adam and I were disappointed with the results, but pleased to have such good Customers! smile

Every Summer we go through a period of slow fishing on RC. Hopefully, it will end tomorrow, this week or soon and we'll be back to the BIG CATCH days RC is known for! If you're going to fish RC, check out the Flats and Main Lake for some early AM Schooling, and then get ready to burn some gas as the fish are scattered and might just pop up anywhere on our Big Ol' Lake!

Good Luck!

Hideandseekfish,

Book a trip with Royce or Bob and let them show you how to read your graph and catch fish. thumb

Fishing is tough right now, no doubt. We searched for the hybrids for a few hours Saturday afternoon with no luck. I had a boat full of kids so I decided to go after some catfish instead. Ended the afternoon with over 75 catfish. Nothing huge but plenty of nice box fish. About 7pm the small hybrids moved in on us to the point that we quit fishing. Way to many deep hooks. I've never seen the numbers of small hybrids on RC like we are seening this yr. Hybrid fishing on RC should be really really good next spring and summer.
