Opinions wanted..... Personally I just think we lost the last 2 spawns before this year... What do you think?

I think your in the wrong spot. Nothing has happened to the bass there. They have to have grass and it has to be deep to attract a reasonable number of bass. Otherwise they are going deep and are going to stay there against the walls where they just wait for the shad to swim down the wall. When the 25 foot tall grass comes back they will show up.

Look at Derek Remitz when he won there, he was fishing in 30-40 feet of water off a ledge when he won if I am not mistaken, maybe deeper?

Funny you mention this. I watched that tournament earlier today. Weights in tournaments on Amistad are nowhere near where they were when Remitz won and when Ish won the year before that. I've never fished the lake, but as an observer, it appears the lake is not producing quite like it was.

Btw, Remitz was fishing deeper than Ike and Steve Kennedy in that tournament, but the fish were producing anywhere from 8' out to 30'+. That was in March though.

They are in there but not fishing like it has been in previous years. Our club fishes it 4 times a year. Years back you could pull in to cove and knock the carp out of them. We have caught numbers, just no DD'S and big bass has been nothing to write home about.

Not everybody knows how to get a bass to bite suspended over 100 feet of water against the wall at 45 ft. deep, out in the middle of the lake. If the wind is blowing no one can do it. You can't keep the brush hog against the wall even with a 1.5 oz. bullet.

We will see if platinum can figure it out in a couple weeks. I'm hearing even the local sticks are struggling with limits

Some of those fish might be holding on those walls but, we launched at Black Brush and run up the Devils River a mile or so past Rough Canyon. I caught 90% of mine on top water (Yellow Magic) in and around tree's and the rest on spinner bait in less than 5 feet of water. Had a blow up that could have gone over 8lbs. Some in our club caught them deep and some didn't. The wind blew like he77 and my best catch's were on a windy point. The bass are there and everywhere. Fun lake to fish!!

It will take several years of good conditions to get the numbers back to where they were..

There are a few folks who still think that all the fish simply went deep.. But very few. fish

Just pick a nice calm day so you can work off shore. Go to the underwater bluffs that extend out in the lake at Cow Creek, bluffs on the right side of the Devils river going to Rough Canyon, and the bluffs on the right side of the San Pedro. These are just a few of the many.

I am seeing thousands of big bass all schooled up against the walls. I have seen them and caught many during the years that the grass goes away. This is what they do every time. Just idle the vertical walls and watch the down imaging, you want believe what you are seeing with the huge numbers.

Just curious---- IF there are "thousands of big bass schooled up against the walls"
WHY is NO ONE catching them ?? I think there are plenty of good fishermen who could catch these fish-- IF they were as you say. bang

That lakes been off for a few years. Too much pressure, keeping big fish and snow birds. All the locals I've talked to think something got in the water when it came up ealier

It's 9 hours away... #1 problem with Amistad and Falcon.

So freaking excited that Texas Team Trail is all up north this year so I can probably join in the fun!
