I've been impressed with the new Garland Academy. Whoever is in charge of the fishing section is ordering good stuff and keeping it stocked well... Might be because it's new and the retail locusts haven't discovered it. I don't know. VERY different from the Mesquite Store, which has pegs for a lot of stuff that I haven't seen in that store in years. Academy has good prices usually so I sometimes go in and get the basics in the zoom plastics and senkos and maybe some squarebills, but I don't count on the a Mesquite store ever having anything I need in stock.

Tackle Warehouse is the bomb if you don't need it in less than 72 hours. I've ordered from them about 25 times and the only time everything wasn't on my doorstep with free shipping in 3-4 business days was last winter with all the crazy weather out west...

Ok here is the deal, if you live in Texas then you know about the EFh/Luminant bankruptcy. Well one of the
two partners in the EFH/Luminant deal is KKR. KKR also owns Academy. That right there should tell you part
of the problem. KKR owns all kinds of different companies in a lot of different business catogories. What I
have seen is that they buyout businesses that they have no idea how they are run or how to make them rum better.
We will be lucky if Academy is still around in 2 or 3 years in my opinion.

I don't like the way the one off 377 has things locked to the shelf. It's not just expensive items or "dangerous" items. It's not just small, easy to steal items. The items they choose to lock up are seemingly random. It makes it hard to shop.

I did make a complaint on the Academy web site. Nothing has changed. I vote with my dollars. Dick's, Bass Pro and Cabela's is where I go now. Too bad Sports Authority by me doesn't sell fishing gear.

Other than the stores I posted, and Walmart where I just don't like going, where can I buy fishing gear around Fort Worth?

I was about to point that out, with an easy to understand image (I hope).

I think some of us just can't forget the good old days at Academy. When the guys in the fishing department and the store manager had the ability to accommodate the customer a little better, the stores had more tackle overall and the absolutely killer clearance sales they would have. And of course there was the "worm bar." I mean the worm bar was just awesome.

But the fact is, Academy is still a great place to shop for so many things an outdoors type person would want and pricing is good. There are quite a few stores to go to so many people don't have to drive for an hour to get to one. So for folks such as myself who don't like internet shopping that much it is a good choice. Now don't get me wrong, I love Bass Pro, and Cabela's is like a toy store for me. So I end up spreading my business around.

it looks to me like what they are doing is stocking their own brand, and have fewer and fewer of the name brands, just their knockoffs..I don't like it

FYI that wasn't directed at you Davey, your post was excellent reminiscing not just blind bashing of current stocking patterns thumb

Wish they would improve the rod selection, allstar and their other store brand H20 is all they ever have here and I don't like either. The one thing I hate ordering online is rods, BPS opening in Round Rock is going to help with this. thumb
