Its not the sizes of the fish that are the issue here tarpon fly it's the super heavy cover I fish and the creek I fish holds double digit fish I've seen the pics of them yes more than one of them. The myth that creeks do not hold big bass is just that a myth.

People land double digit bass all the time on ultralight gear fishing for crappie and usually around brush. Its all in how you fight the fish IMO but a good line certainly won't hurt. Fluoro is a really good option for fishing heavy cover. And arent creeks usually pretty clear unless after a recent rain? if so then you will probably also see your bite rate go way up by using fluoro. Again just my experience and opinion. To each his own.

Yes there clear I do like fluoro just got the braid for free gave it a shot and I don't think I like it so I'm going to stick to my 17lb fluoro

I personally like both, just depends on what your doing. I have different rods for different purposes. I have my frogging rod that has 65# braid, and I need it at times to horse them out of the vegetation......but other than that, I typically stick to 12# floro.

Ok cool sounds like you got yourself setup pretty good then! I dont really like braid either but it is awesome on a spinning reel. I just use a fluoro leader, works great and its super sensitive!

Some of you guys are missing one of the main points of using braid. It's not necessarily for the pound test, it's for the lack of stretch. I use braid with c rigs because a lot of the times you get bit in deep water or at the end of a long cast, and you need your line to transfer the hookset energy. Mono at the end of a 40 yd cast is going to stretch over 10 feet. Not good for hook penetration. Same reason I use it with a chatterbait. You need a very quick, hard hookset with a chatterbait. Mono and even floro stretch too much, the braid will give you an instant hookset. Same reason I use it with frogs. Plus it floats.

Ok, so I stopped reading posts after a few long ones... so this might have been covered already.
I use 30#braid (unknown name brand...cause im poor)on every reel I own and I only throw spinning reels. Im not much of a bass fisherman, but Ill go for them when the time comes. I mainly go for Crappie & Cats.
I have never had a knot untie/slip because I was using any one kind of line ever... I have had them slip/break after a looooong period of time using it and never changing it... again, Im poor so I like to keep what little line I can. I had a monster cat slip my hook off the end of my leader on my surf rod about a month ago, but I have caught 30#ers on the same lime... and probably same knot if Im thinking correctly. I did have the pleasure of fighting with him for about a minute and a half before he slipped off though.
NEWAYS

DO NOT buy braid line if all you have is closed reels. I have 3 rhino reels (I don't use anymore, just backups for when my reels break) and I have found that braided line will not "catch" inside the closed reels.

BEST THING ABOUT BRAID...
When you bobber/minnow fish, your mono line sinks... Braid line floats! No more getting caught under logs, rocks, bobber spinning causing a cluster fun time... NO MORE!
Also, when you get a bite, you feel it a lot more and quicker when you use braid as opposed to mono... and the setting of the hook... cant beat it.
So after that jumbled response... I only use monno for my "weight" leader when I catfish. Braid is the way for me.

Agree with Timwins, the lack of stretch is it's best feature. It's a myth that fluoro has significantly less stretch than mono (some fluoros do have less stretch, others no)

So, for situations where you don't want stretch--long casts with a swim jig/arig/swim bait/chatterbait/spinnerbait or long casts with a crig I like 30 pound braid as the main line. The hook essentially sets itself on the swim baits/spinnerbaits/etc and much easier with the Crig.

As aforementioned, heavy braid is great for frogs in thick vegetation and long casts with topwaters next to thick vegetation.

I appreciate all you're opinions.I just didn't realize how passionate people are about their line choice.Went out today and now I'm sure after I'm done with the braid I got ill be sticking with my 17lb suffix flouro and mono. Had 3 fish break me off. Two because of nicks or frays on my braid 1 because off my crappy knot. I also like my mono because it's almost invisible.

I like to back all my reels with about 30-50 yards of braid, the braid never wears out or needs to be replaced so when I need to respool I just have to respool the mono or flouro. Makes it cast further because it lightens up the spool and it saves me money, win win.

I recently put 15 lb. Spiderwire 'Glow-Viz' braid on my Pflueger President spinning reel. It's been really enjoyable throwing lures with it. Love it. Just got to inspect the last 3-4 feet of line every few days of fishing to check for any line nicks or tatters that might cause a fish to break off.

I would not go back to mono on my spinning reel.

Braid, ftw. High test, low diameter. Almost no to no memory. Low stretch means good feel and energy transfer. More durable all around.

Thought I'd try spiderwire 10lb braid at 2 lb diameter. Nice long casts. Used the instructed palomar knot the manufacturer calls for. I caught a boatload of fish in 2 days up at beavers bend and eventually had a less than one pound trout hit my super duper so hard the line broke. That's right, broke. The knot did not slip out. I went to powerpro with a similar line for bass in ponds I fish. For a couple days it fished well. Then a bass about 1 pound hit my small inline spinner hard and the line broke. I followed the manufacturers instructions and even called the powerpro folks and I was told to use a double palomar knot when tying on lures. I'll stick to mono.
