Welstead family (bill)-
Any chance you asked a white/blu bass boat for a catfish spot on the old lake side yesterday? If so that was me in the boat. Had a man and his son stop by and ask me for a place to fish for catfish and I had seen some of the guides drifting the channel out in front of the old lake dam. I was fishing the rocks on the dam for bass but saw the guide boats doing their thing out in the deeper water.

You're kidding me. Yes that was me and my son trying to learn how to fish from a boat... This must be a pretty tight fishing community for two people to meet up on this message board within 24 hours. We had a blast any how, but I'm really really wanting to catch some fish.

I think I'll go out again next Saturday morning. Try baiting the channels and slabs on the hybrids. I've never caught a hybrid to this day.

It is suprising how small the forum can be. It's hard getting the right drift down out there in the deeper water-most of the guides either have a big drift sock or are good at using the trolling motor to maintain speed and direction. If you just want to catch fish (especially your 6 year old) then I would recommend finding a shallow, wind blown point or stretch of shoreline and use punchbait about 1-2ft under a cork.(weightless) Anchor the boat out in deeper water, let the wind blow the boat toward shore then tie up so you're in 8-10ft of water and within a cast of 1-2ft of water. Cats can get real shallow this time of year and love the windy banks. You can probably pick any of the primary and secondary points between the main lake point (Twin Trees Point) and the cut in the old dam. (West shoreline) The hard part is getting the boat positioned right and the anchor holding-may take a couple of tries and the big boat wakes won't help you any. As for the hybrids I saw a small group of boats out in 30ft of water off the main lake point.
