I'm headed down to port A. I was just wondering if anyone is having any Luck. I havent seen too many reports on here about port A. I mostly fish for speck's and red's but would like to catch some kingfish if they are in close enough. Has anybody been doing any good? Thanks!

Throw some gold spoons from the jetty, the Spanish mackerel are good right now, and they like those gold spoons..

Hey thanks, Trey. I havent caught any spanish mackerel in a while. I've seen alot more people catching them the last couple of years seems like. I will share some reports when I get there. I'm not leaving to go until next sunday. I'm just already ready. Missed my usual trip in the spring and It's been too long. Hurricanecrappie as far as redfishing. I drift and fish live shrimp under a popping cork or throw cocohoe minnows in pumpkinseed and chartruse. I think most people targeting reds, soak crockers on the bottom and in holes on the flats but they can be fun on a topwater spook if the conditions are right.

Fished packery channel hard two weeks ago. The winds kept me from doing what I wanted. Some luck on fresh dead shrimp.

Charley's pasture was producing large gaff top early Saturday morning
Some guy had about 8-10 nice ones on a stringer
Good eats.

First day here. Wind was blasting about 20 mph. I fished the intercoastal by the lighthouse. 2 small trout, small red, some hardheads. Went out to the end of the jettys. There was some big rollers but no fish. Fished the fina docks on the way in.5 small sheep heads and a croaker.

Well after the first 2 days fishing the cuts and channels. I didn't have much to show. Decided to go off shore and fish the rigs. We ended up catching our limits on kingfish the next 3 day's. It was a little rough but the pay off was good. Maybe some of you frequent kingfish guy's can help me out. I was fishing with 30 lb test on a medium duty spinning reel. Got smoked twice. Friend of mine said to use 20# so you can get more line on the reel. Seems a little light.

Usually I fish with heavier gear than it sounds like you were using. I typically have about 500 or more yards of either 50# or 80# line depending on what I am targeting. Now that's if I am offshore. Around the bays what you have should be sufficient. Kings will strip every bit of line you have if you don't constantly check and adjust your drag.

Hey thanks. I've fished the bay's and stuff all my life but I bought me a nautic star last year and this was my first trip into the gulf. I was targeting kingfish. I just didn't think about going that heavy. The ones we caught were between 10 and 23 pounds. Lots of fun.

Yeah, Kings are a blast but sometimes trying to get them to the boat is like trying to stop a train. I go heavy because usually if there are Kings there are also sharks and other much larger fish.

Seen a guy jigging for jacks and hooking up. He said they were around #40. He was catching and releaseing. Yeah evidently we hook some big kings or something. Cleaned the line off the spool in about 5 sec. Haha. Thanks for the info. I guess I'm going to bass pro to do some some shopping before I go back.

60+ and all is well, wire leader or cable, my last trip I used an Avet 30w full of 80# mono with cable leader, worked great.
