Day in day out over time- it DOES matter.- braid will result in fewer bites on clearer or even stained lakes- really not even a matter of opinion- IMO! I'm talking about all braid whether you use leader or not. Seen it on heavy Falcon stain to clear Alan Henry to grass East Texas stuff.
If the fish are active and feeding or guarding you may not have much difference but many times for less active reaction strikes and wary giants it does really make a significant difference. For example a fired up school hitting all your a rigs and moving baits will bite whatever line you throw. A finicky flush feeding giant moving along a break or barely guarding a bed may not bite braid- seen it lots of times. That has been my experience. I just fun fish for big ones, but if money were on the line......little things add up.
Sometimes in certain situations like op said braid may have advantages, but only those times.

I'm gonna spool up a couple of rods with Power Pro and do some comparative testing the rest of the year. If any of y'all come up with any comparisons whether you like one or the other please post your findings.

I don't think it is seeing the line that spooks them because you would never get bit on an A-rig with all those wires.

I think (and this is just a guess on my part) that the braid makes noise when moving through the rod guides when it is dragging over structure or cover and that "singing" noise is what turns them away at times. Several guides on Fork have told me that they see it all the time on a C-rig. Clients without braid as a main line get more bites than the ones with braid. Now many use braid on their drop shot rod but in most cases it is more of a vertical presentation and not really making noise, but who knows the real reason that sometimes you will get less bites using braid. Only the fish know for sure.

I was thinking about rigging up a drop shot with all 20 pound braid (no leader) and see how that works.

I am new to braid but what is the point of using 30-50lb braid if your going to put on a 12-20lb leader?

I use braid in very clear water and have had no problems in catching some very big fish. I have recently started using a 30# mono leader about 3' worth of it to be exact. So far I have not seen the slightest bit of difference. Could be Im fishing deep hydrilla or could be Im missing the subtle bites lost on the mono? All that being said, I will say this...towards the end of the summer when these fish have seen my jig for 60 days they don't thump it quite so aggressively. When I change over to straight mono in years past it does trigger a bit better bite. But, over all I have to say in my water there seems to be little to no difference in whether I use straight 80# braid or straight mono.
There is defiantly a noise issue with braid, heck hook a fish and you can hear it. So I have little doubt its making all kinds of racket down hole.

None other than make the fisherman feel better- whatever your confident with I guess- not me.
I really like minimal knots between myself and big fish. That's why I like the little sliding Carolina keepers- need two with bigger weights but you can crig with one knot.
