Hi folks! Going down to do some surf fishing next weekend, (my second time actually) and want to know what the people's opinion is on the Hi Vis monofilament line. Is it ok for say a 5lb drum of any kind? Or should I try artificial lures with a light rod? Thanks!

If there is any Cudas or Kings they will hit it and cut it, clear or green works best.

I'll be using a wire leader, about 3ft long. Is that too long?

no, if yuor fishing for drum, specifically 5 lb drum, no need to use a wire leader,hi vis mono helps alot , if your worried about spooking fish(honeslty it doesnt matter) use aclear mono leader or if you got the money use flouro, but surf fishing is 99% in dirty water so it really wont matter

Use a clear mono or fluorocarbon leader.

I always use wire or cable in salt water for a leader.

Why????
Only time I use a wire leader is if I am targeting mackerel or sharks. Fluorocarbon is the best leader choice. No need for wire when fishing for trout, reds and the like. Using wire all the time WILL limit strikes and inhibit lure action.

I think is better to fish with braid main line+fluorocarbon leader.Wire leader just for Spanish mackerel.
With braid ,if you fish with spinning reel you can cast and you feel better bites.
