Boggy Bayou, Port O'Connor

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum and fairly new to saltwater wadefishing, been to boggy a few times with live shrimp and live croaker on a popping cork, got one legal trout today...several promising bites. Fishing with artificial tomorrow and hoping for the best. If y'all have any beginners advice it would be more than appreciated. Alternatively, if any of y'all are going to be out there tomorrow it'd be my pleasure to learn from anyone with slight experience. Thank you!

Go to the jetty and do what you were doing at boggy...especially at dawn/dusk. My buddy guides down there and we have found good numbers of trout there. Boggy can be good but wading is precarious because of the mud and rays. Also, try the pier at night. Good luck!

As you may have found out different areas of Boggy Bayou have radically different bottom. If you are entering Boggy from the open bay side fish the opening to the bay first early in the morning. Note..great spot for flounder on an outgoing tide. Cross the channel and go to the right hand side of Boggy and fish back to the rear(Towards where the creek opens up into Boggy Bayou. Try either a 1/8 oz or 1/4 oz weedless Johnson Sprite Fish the weedlines and the potholes. You should catch a few reds and better trout if there is bait present. Stay away from the left side (going in) and towards the entrance. That area has some really bad mud. As a side note I've also done very well wading Boggy on the full moon at night.

Thank ya'll for all the advice ! I will be sure to try it out the next time I go. And yes I did find that the left side was super muddy. Pretty exhausting trek back to the truck sinking the whole way lol. I didn't venture too far past the channel. The day after I posted we caught probably 5-8 undersized trout. Some bait fish and of course old faithful hardheads. Had a good time but with yalls input I feel better about next time!

There are two channels that go into the bay if I remember correctly. The further one is deeper and trout move through there on the moving tide. We often done well there. I've see 30 inchers caught there. Boggy itself is good redfishing. The only way I'll fish in there is in a kayak. Too muddy in places. The pier is good too but lot's of dinks at night. The little jetties also fish pretty good. Lot's of sheephead among the rocks.

I fish there pretty regularly and wade most of the time. I wade the outside of Boggy and usually have done most of my damage with soft plastics. Find a sandbar and wade it towards the second cut and fan cast the guts. Get there early because this time of year the bite dies down about 9 am for me at least. Also watch out for dolphins and sharks they like trout too.

We were in POC Oct 7-10. So pretty much right after the hurricane. We tried to get to Boggy, but there was a trailer blocking the road. Is that because of the damage from the hurricane, or were we trying to use the wrong road? We are kayak fisherman, and would really like to get back there and check it out. Thanks!
