Upper coast guides

Upper coast guides - 04/11/12 12:45 AM

Are there any good guides that don't charge $500 - $600 a day on the coast? I thought the bass guides were charging alot at $350 a day. I might have to drag the jon boat down if we can't find a better deal. Looking to target reds.

If you all ready know how to fish, and fish basics, why hire a guide.
invest in some waders, and wader gear, and start fishing.
wade the gulf when calm
wade the bays
wade around pelican island
wade around port bolivar.
read this forum, google wade fishing, youll figure it out.

Yeah i know. We live 6 hours away and only get to go once or twice a year. We have dragged a flatbottom down with us a few times and fished some backwaters and did ok. Its just hard to get on the fish quick when you don't go often.

Chris B- If a guide is not in that range you want to be cautious. The guys that do it full time and lose sleep at night thinking of where the fish will bite next know what the "going rate" is. A guy that charges half of that is a part timer and those are usually the culprits for "horrible guide" posts. In life, you get what you pay for. There are times you get lucky, but law of averages always prevail. Save a little harder, go with someone (guide posted above has great reputation) that will really make it memorable. There's a huge difference catching 80 fish for 500 bux, or 8 for 250 in my book.

You know i have been self employed for 20 years (apparently in the wrong business). I just don't think $600 is a fair rate for 8 hours of fishing. I have got some good recommendations from this post and i think i will give them a try and see what happens. Thanks for all the help.
