Soft Plastic Recommendations

Soft Plastic Recommendations - 10/16/22 09:15 PM

Headed down to Taylor and Clear Lake and then to Rockport week of the 24th. Curious what brands and types of soft plastic baits would be recommended for the trip. Guessing 1/8 and 1/4 oz jig heads.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks !

I use two.
Hogie Super Minnow, pumpkin/Chartreuse, red glitter/white tail. Pumpkin when it's cloudy or water is cloudy, red when the sun is on the water.
Norton Sand eel, tequila/chartreuse. Baffin magic if you can find them. Eel gets the job in clearer water, or especially if I think there's a few flounder wandering around.

Both on 1/8 oz oldham screw lock heads.

I've not had anyone with me do better with anything else. Not saying it won't happen, but so far not.

Good deal.

If you’re not used to the bay, here’s what a proper gaming area looks like. Light stained water with broken up grass with potholes.

Captain,

You are very kind. I have about 80 bucks worth of stuff coming my way. I should be good for a 3-4 day trip.

Thank you again !

Hogie Super Minnow, pumpkin/Chartreuse pretty much all I use. Then again I am not a great fisherman

Fish the eel just like a bass assasin, they work good under a mauler type float also.

Pat,

Pardon my ignorance, can you explain how a bass assasin is fished. Thanks for all of the feedback.

When you give the rod a twitch with some slack line the eel will go sideways and when you’re doing it right it’ll be a side to side walk action. Very effective.

I really like the eel on a hot bite because it’s so tough, they have to nearly shred it off a screw lock head.
