Suffix #30 Braid

Suffix #30 Braid - 04/03/21 01:19 PM

I just switched from power pro to suffix on my spinning set up (6'6" medium action with PENN Clash II) and I get the worst wind knots every 15 cast or so. Its coming off the reel spool in a knot and I can feel it going through the guides. Anyone have the same problem? I'm about to scrap this stuff.

Yeah, I tried it, not impressed, went back to power pro.

I run the Yellow 65lb Suffix Braid on a couple of my catfish rigs, typically use them for suspended, but have no problems casting either.

Might be true, but casting a 1/8 jig it was the worst at balling up and throwing line snots I've ever used.

That’s what I’m experiencing. I’m going to switch it over to my baitcaster for plugs. Light lures on spinning and it’s the worst.

I prefer Suffix 832 to Power Pro, but I am using 15# on my spinning reels. The lighter Power Pro seemed to wear faster. Very few issues with wind knots, and I fish mostly plastics with very light jigheads.

I bought a small spool of 15# for a light spinning outfit. That line is stiffer that a stretch of barbed wire fence.

I've actually found the Sufix braid to be pretty good stuff, but I rarely use anything other than a fly rod, so I don't get the use out of it that most do. I generally use Power Pro, but I recently got a batch of 8# that constantly twists up; I don't know why. Never had that issue with the 10# Power Pro. I have started using some 6# J Braid on the rods I use to prospect for crappies and whites; I really like that stuff! It's hard to find good braid testing under 10#.

I've tried it. For me it is better than Power Pro. I have some Kast King braid on a couple of reels and so far it's working fine for me.

Which specific suffix line are you using? Suffix performance is 6 strand, while 832 is 8 strand. The more strands it has, the more plyable it is, in my experience. So if you are using 8 strand, you may want to try 6 strand and may have better results.

On baitcasters we run 8 strand braid, like Suffix 832 and Power Pro Super Slick8, in 30 lb, as it helps to keep the tigher woven 8 strand braid from digging into itself when fighting a big fish. It sounds like you are having a different issue? Regular Suffix Performance braid is 6 stranded. To me, that makes it less plyable, but maybe you are using too small of test? Once we switched to braid, at the coast, we don't throw anything smaller than 20# braid. I usually throw Power Pro super slick 8 in 30lb. I throw small plastics and 1/16 oz jigheads all day long with little issues there, but again, I am not using a spinning rig. I am also assuming you are not having a twist issue from spooling your reels incorrectly? I will say that the 8 strand line gives me an ocassional wind knot or tip wrap on the windiest of days. I like the smoothness it has vs. the 6 strand.

If you have a boat or access to one, you could try slow trolling with just the line going out (no lures, no swivel) and let the drag in the water untwist it. When you reel the line back in, put some tension on it so it will spool up tight on the reel. If you still have problems, then throw the line away.

go to FINS windtamer braid 15 or 20# for spinning reels. It's the only braid I have used on my client gear for 12 years, it's hard to beat.
