Bayou Vista area - 05/29/19 09:51 PM

I’m looking to head out to the bayou vista area with my jon boat. I’m a freshwater angler for the most part, so I’m just looking for some advice.. anything on rigs, good areas around there, tides, things to watch out for would be greatly appreciated. I’ve gone bay fishing before but I’ve never been the main guy in charge lol I just went out and fished without paying attention to some of the smaller details or without a real say on where to go. Thanks in advance!

Have you ever been there before first? Louis' Bait Camp would be the place to launch. The water is high now due to hard southerly winds. Both sides of Highway 6 Bridge usually hold fish. Went by that area today, water was flat far the most part. There are several coves on the North side of the bridge all the up to the RR Bridge, which usually holds some nice flatfish. The south side of Hwy 6 bridge heads out towards Galveston way. A lot of marsh land, more coves, and a big canal to navigate in. Look at a map first before you head out. That is if you've never been in that area before. I haven't heard any fishing reports from that area. You may inquire at the Bait Camp. If ya have a cast net, try finding some finger mullet or shrimp along those marshy shorelines.Great live bait fished on bottom or under a slip cork set up.!! I'd use 20# mainline and some 30# leader line. Good luck and stay safe. Don't forget you PFD.
