Viewing Livescope/Active target from the console only

Viewing Livescope/Active target from the console only - 04/22/21 01:46 PM

I have a 20' center console Pathfinder that I'm going to add new electronics to. I want to get a Minn kota ulterra with a Lowrance active target transducer mounted to it. I had thought about getting a Hds 12 live for the console and a Hds 9 live for the bow. The bow unit would only be used for active target. I never fish in the front of my boat, I always stay at the helm and one of my buddies stays at the front deck. I will use the Active target for 90% crappie fishing and I just need it to position us on to a brush pile with fish. I fish the bay a lot and use mapping often. My thought now is to just put a Hds 16 live on the console and run the ulterra with the remote to get us into position. I don't want to clutter up my front with anymore stuff than I have to. So, is anyone running Live scope/Active target without a unit on the bow?

I don't understand the desire to use a trolling motor that will not sync up to my fish finder. using the graph to " go to " a waypoint makes fishing brushpiles
so easy. After you do it this way , you will wonder why you ever did it the old way.
Secondly , mounting the livescope or active target transducer to the trolling motor while using spot lock, makes no sense to me. You have no control over
where you are looking. Remember it is only a 20 degree cone. . It is going to be looking straight forward, From the console, you won't be able to see
your bait or your relation ship to the brushpile.

just my 2 cents

If I were starting over , I would have Garmin livescope , and trolling motor , with bow and console graphs linked to each other and the trolling motor,

good luck

I need a saltwater trolling motor since I fish at the coast often. Minn kota only talks to Humminbird I believe and Lowrance and Garmin seem to have the best Livescope versions. I fished with a guide this year that had his Livescope transducer on the trolling motor. It kept the brush pile in view pretty well using spot lock. I don't want to have another stick up on my bow. Thanks

I tried it both ways. If you’re crappie fishing and can adjust your boat position for the wind direction (no trees/obstructions) then on the TM works great. If you were going to “chase” crappie, then a separate pole would work better maybe. What you’re wanting to do, should work fine. Just gonna have to inch up to the brush pile real slowly with a big boat.

A single graph would not pose a problem, obvious not ideal for the person in front, but you could always add a small graph later on networked if you had to for them.

Mo, I discovered that my Lowrance will link with a Motorguide Xi5 so that is what I will get instead of the Minn Kota. Grout I already received the 16'' Lowrance so we'll see how it goes. Your right, I can add a front unit later if I feel that it is necessary.

Biggest issue you’ll have is the power consumption, the AT and 16 will pull some serious amps.

you will love the ability to navigate to a waypoint using the graph. It is a game changer.
