Hummingbird solix 12 SI and DI help - 10/12/20 12:04 AM

When I bought the boat(Blue wave 1902 center console) it had a lowrance unit on it, I changed that out to a Humminbird Solix 10(at the center console) and had the transducer mounted by a professional but it threw up a horrible rooster tail that would hit the riders in the back of the boat. I lowered it down and did the “change” trick to level it which solved the rooster tail but I would loose all reading on plane. So I raised it back up and did the “change” trick again and the rooster tail came back and now it has a false bottom on the graph, my depth when not moving with jump from 22 or 38 feet and back to 22, been all over the lake and have never marked fish like you see(red arches) despite being right in the middle of huge schools of striper all around us. Basically I have screwed the damn thing up so I’m looking for a professional to remount the transducer, stop the rooster tail and reset my factory settings and make sure it’s dialed back in correctly. I live in waxahachie but can tow it within a reasonable distance to get the job done. Either PM me please or post here and we can get in touch. Thanks!

i would highly recommend to raise your si transducer and install a 2d transducer with y cable. Not sure which gen solix you have the hw dual spectrum is much better than the dual beam which is gen 1 solix. Even if you have a gen 1 it is still compatible with the dual spectrum. The high dollar si transducers are kinda difficult (but not impossible) to get set correctly as you have seemed to have found out.

The "change trick" does not put the transducer at an attitude for on-plane depth. That "trick" is to get the best Images when at idle speed scanning since the bow would be elevated.
To get somewhat 2D sonar when on plane, the rear of the transducer should be lower than the front to deflect the water and get a smooth flow across the face of the transducer.
The BEST option is to add another transducer for 2D sonar, either transom or shoot-thru and connect it and the SI transducer to the display with the 14 M SIDB Y cable.

Do not need the shoot-thru with temp since there is no connection for the temp sensor using the Y cable. THIS is the correct one:

I would have to do some work to get a through hull transducer to work, not much room in that boat for that. Ill look into adding the second 2D transducer, right now i have to get my original one back to working order first. My DI images are no better then my 2D ones which leads me to think that the transducer is out of whack and needs to be releveled and mounted on the board back there. Can the second 2D transducer be mounted next to the other one on the same board or does it need to be on the other side of the boat?

Can you post some pics of your transom?

From the looks of the first pic its too close to the strake on the hull. Too much disturbed water there. Move it to the very left side of the mounting plate and it should read better.

tilt the back end of the transducer down

Move it more in this area and tilt it down. Do I need to the whole “change trick” again? [Linked Image]

Remounted it tonight further away from the strake, top is level. Is the tilt down to much? Haven’t been able to get to the lake yet. [Linked Image]

Looks to be a bit too low and definitely angled down too much. Bottom of transducer needs to only be about 1/4" below the hull line and angled slightly upwards

Looks like a good starting point. Now taker her out and see how it does. Soon as I can get to my boat I'll take a pic to show you a little trick to reduce the spray off of it.

Ok I said I owe a pic. Here’s my totalscan transducer. As mounted it reads great up to 50mph which is as fast as my boat goes. Problem was the spray off of it was really bad. The green plastic is a piece of cheap disposable cutting board. Cut it out and put it on there over 3 years ago and works great. No more spray. I probably could trim some off the back end but never got around to it.

Thats pretty neat. Need to go find a disposable cutting board now. How did you get it to stick to the transducer?

It's sandwiched between the transducer and mounting bracket. Just cut it out and mark where the holes are and cut or drill them out.
