What is the right unit for a newby?

What is a good unit to buy for someone new to this world? If I wanted to keep it in the $500 - $700 range what unit would best serve my needs? I am a weekend warrior so I am not looking for the biggest and baddest. Just want something that will help find the structure on the bottom of the lake, the humps, and maybe point out a few fish for me.

I own a Bayliner fish/ski combo.

Thanks for any advice you can give.

Take a look at the Lowrance HOOK Reveal series. Gives you a lot for the money and with-in your budget.

Look at the Echomap series from Garmin. Simple to use, and great customer service.
