Garmin rumors - 07/29/20 12:01 AM

I am planning to buy a Garmin Livescope and a 12" screen, however I am working out of state and probably won't be home to install and use it until early 2021. Has anyone heard any rumors about a next generation or improvements that are coming?

I am currently running a Humminbird Solix G1 on my console. I could get a 360 transducer for it, if they will be putting out something to compete with Livescope, and put that money toward a trolling motor with spot lock.

Anyone know how to check the current software on a livescope box bought last month? Installed it and and a 94v head unit today, not sure if I need to do an update.

have to use the active capt. app on your phone to update, load app, turn on graph first and let the app recognize it (this also automatically registers it with garmin) then do the livescope, when all garmin units are on active capt. be sure you have good internet on phone and it will search for updates and prep them on the phone, next link phone to graph and it will walk you thru updating, same with livescope. be sure to link phone to garmin wifi, the graph will give you a name like garmin 1899 (one of mine), just connect to that wifi and you will see the rest come up.

it will take a few mins. but is a super simple process once you do it once or twice.

check out the active capt. app when you load it, right side button is your info on your units (ser. # and tutorial videos), left button, sync with plotter is where the update info will be, it is all pretty much automatic once all is set up right.

still learning mine, jumped in with both feet and got a little info overload trying to keep up with all 5 but am getting there.

I would buy the new garmins just for the graphs they are that good. I got just two months ago two Echomap Ultra 122sv's installed, plus added the livescope with the perspective mode/transducer. The system works great. Seeing the fish is a plus but the biggest plus to me is being about to see the structure out in front of the boat. There are times when I can see a fish big enough to say yep thats a fish, but most of the time you see movement going across the screen. Which is ok with me. My best advice I can give is have your system installed by someone who installs boat electronics, and have your units wired directly to the battery. Before I plopped down the +$6 k for my units, I talked to multiple marine electronic places that sold and installed the 3 brands that I was considering. I also talked to the respective brands "technical support" reps about their systems. The main takeaway i got was the biggest issue with problems occurring resulted from improper installation. So I hooked onto my boat and made the drive and had them installed correctly by a marine electronics shop. But that's just me.

Has anyone heard of a new product coming out? Looking at a 12" screen with Livescope, and a new trolling motor.

There's always going to be progress, R and D is ongoing. I hate going to BPS and seeing my
1 year old fishfinders on sale for half price. I'm sure the new LiveScopes are on the drawing board.

With what you are considering I can’t think of any reason not to go ahead. Everyone has to realize Garmin hasn’t laid off their engineers. There will be something new coming. When and what, I have no clue.
