Yellowfin are starting to show up - 11/06/18 05:26 PM
For us Texas anglers the bigger fish are starting to show up at the floaters. We took off from Port A on the Dolphin Express with captain Timmy and crew. 15 anglers, mostly TFF'ers. The first night we caught 26 Yellowfin and they were above average. When we finished the 50 hour trip we had 33 Yellowfin, a dozen or so Blackfin, a 363 pound Mako from the floaters. The average tuna may have been 80 pounds. I had one over 100, my only fish but my fault. I had several tackle errors.
During the day Saturday we went to fish the bottom and caught a good number of Scamps and B liners to bring home. We caught several Red Snapper and numerous AJ's that had to be put back. Shame in that many of those did not go back down. AJ season had just closed.
Anyway, the weather was a little sporty but fishing was much better than I had expected. Hopefully this means the tuna are here for the winter.
If anyone wants to take a trip with a TFFer, the most guaranteed way may be to book a trip on one of the trips on the Scat Cat with Captain Fred. He is hyperman on the forum and is his name describes him well. He was on our trip, being a captain and choosing to fish for tuna with his friends.
