THSBA & SafeSport Act

THSBA & SafeSport Act - 07/19/19 05:13 PM

Effective for the 2019-2020 season (and every season thereafter), any person that volunteers in any capacity with the THSBA, including our tournament directors, their staff and our board members, will need to be SafeSport certified, no exceptions. We have a link to get registered for the certification on our website, www.texashighschoolbassassn.com. To get to the link, follow these instructions:

1) Go to our website, www.texashighschoolbassassn.com
2) On the homepage there is a red task bar. Hover your cursor over “MEMBERSHIP”. A menu will drop down.
3) Click on “SAFESPORT” and another page will pull up.
4) Click on “You can get Certified by CLICKING HERE”
5) You will be directed to the THSBA page on Sports Engine. Follow the instructions on that page to get registered and pay the $10 for the course.
6) Once you register and pay, you will receive an email with a link to the course.
7) Watch the videos and take the test. You must make a 70 or higher to pass.
8) Once you successfully complete the course, print off your Certificate of Completion.
9) Add your Certificate of Completion to the fully completed Membership packet and email entire packet to the THSBA office (email found in the membership packet)

The SafeSport Act was enacted by Congress and signed into law by the President of the United States in February of 2018 and pertains to Sexual Abuse Awareness training.

A free online course would have been nice.

Yes, yes it would have. Unfortunately this is not mandated by the THSBA or is the THSBA getting any rewards from this. And actually the course was $20 but we had a board member contact them and told them how many people we had that would be required to take it and they dropped it to $10. We all had to take it as well and pay the $10 just like everyone else. Thank you for volunteering your time .

It's less than the cost of a spool of line, slightly more than a spinnerbait or two packs of Zoom baits.
I've never seen more folks whine and cry about $10 and a little time in my life.....

These old days of VOLUNTEERING are gone. They were replaced due to predators and people that DIDN'T report problems back in the GOOD OLD days. Thanks for that...….

True. Plus, there’s always been predators, even in the “good ole days”. Never had to worry about them because they weren’t reported and it’s way easier to track them and report them now. Do I think signing a piece of paper or watching a video will prevent anything, absolutely not. But, it’s a legal requirement and as an organization don’t blame them for requiring it.

What C130 said. I took the course, it was a complete waste of time, but it’s a CYA move by the organization should a future lawsuit come up. It’s the world we live in. No big deal.

I thought it was a well done course. Covered a lot of bases and gave ya some things to look for. If it saves even 1 issue then it was worth my time.

I'm pretty sure I paid $20. No big deal, that's like the cover charge for just walking in Cabelas.

I'd be tickled to get out of cabelas or bass pro and only spend $20.

That's just the cover charge.
