Count me in....

Had a follow-up appointment with my Dr. on Friday after the hospital stay for covid.
looking at my chart over the years he noticed a weight loss of 100 lbs since 2014...50 lbs over the last year.

I hope to keep up the loss but I know I will fluctuate up and down.

Thanks,

Great news! We have a PM going and I will add your names to the participants.

Requirements are that each of us will publicly post our results at the first of every month, primarily weight loss or gain and how we got there. Tips on positive progress is always a plus, too.

We have all disclosed our starting weight on a PM. I will send to you and Big Possum.

Thanks for joining and let's get healthy!

I don't know exactly what everyone is doing but here's what I'm shooting for, base it off you're starting weight.

Lose 4% of my starting body weight by Feb 20th
Lose 8% of my starting body weight by April 3
Lose 12% of my starting body weight by May 15

I've done it before and lost over 15% of my starting weight, unfortunately I'm exactly back to where I was when I started several years ago.

Going to do lots of cardio and a healthy diet.

My first week of eating healthish, no alcohol, and some cardio stuff, I'm down to 266 this AM. I was deep into the 270's last week. Pants and shirts are still tight though.

Good job, Brian. Keep it up!

It's been really hard for me to get in the groove but I'm still working at it. Diets stink. I have to look at it as a lifestyle change, and I'm not quite there yet. Each day isn't getting easier, either. Work it, work it, work it!

Re: 2021 Weight Loss/Get Healthy Thread - 01/12/21 08:35 PM

I'll join in on this! My wife and I workout 5 days a week, and are former college athletes, so if I can be of any resource to anyone needing some advice or workout ideas, shoot me a PM.
Consistency is everything!
I'm down 5 pounds from the start of 2020, from 222 to 217.

Don't expect to set the world on fire right outta the gate. It's a mental game just as much as physical. Commit, commit, commit! I would feel it an honor to help, and I mean that.

Week 2 didn't go as good as week one, but still improvement. 260 - closing in on 20lbs. We call in something every day for lunch at work, it's hard getting healthy food, so I'm working on portion size and calories.

Got on my bike yesterday for the first time this year and pumped out 18mi as hard as I could. Muscle memory is nice, the first 7 or 8 miles were kind of rough, then it clicked - go time. I probably only rode 6 or 7 times last year so I wasn't sure how that was going to go, we hurt today...

WOW! How in the heck do you lose it so fast? I’d have to quit eating for two weeks to lose that much that quick. Stay with it! You’ve already went yard in my book.

Re: 2021 Weight Loss/Get Healthy Thread - 01/18/21 09:12 PM

I think alot of it is water weight, and that I put on close to 50lbs in a matter of like 8 months or less. My thought is it should come off easy as it came on. Really trying to add physical excersie to maximize the weight loss.

Looking at myself I don't see a difference yet, pants and shirts are still tight. For the most part I've quit drinking alcohol, and started eating healthier, smaller portions, so without even working out, I think I'm at a calorie deficit now, so adding a workout routine with that will really see results.

This is me, too. All I'm doing is walking for now but averaging 65K-70K steps a week. I do it 5 days a week. I will start back on my walk/jog combo once I lose a few more pounds. My food intake is still a work in progress but it has got lots better, but not where it needs to be. Lessa is mo betta! Going through a stomach shrinking now. I can remember many a nights during the holidays that I would eat so much that I had to go to bed and lay down flat to stretch it all out. Really? Yes, pathetic. But I'm trying now. Hard work will pay off.

I'm glad I never picked a fight with you regarding our political differences, ha! Hey, dude...I'm glad you posted. This accountability stuff helps me and I hope it helps you, too. You can do this. Start with walking. Make smaller plates of food. Drink lots of water. Don't eat past 7pm at night, nothing. If you committed, you could be below 300 faster than you realize. Get outta the bunker bolt and get to walking. You've got a family that wants you around so first, do it for yourself. Then do it for your family. Share your progress around Feb 1st. Lots of lurkers here that need to join as well, and you just might help influence someone else to become healthier and fit and live a longer life.

Only drink water when you are thristy, I am not a believer drinking lots of water, especailly if your are trying to loose weight. You will have water wieight gain.

I also think salt is good for you, I use the pink salt from Costco.

You get alot of water out of your food you eat

I wholeheartedly disagree with that assessment.

My thoughts are more water the better. It flushes impurities out of your system and you will eventually pee it out the extra weight.
Salt retains fluids in your system.
Once you wait until you're thirsty to drink, you've already started the first step of dehydration.

I'm currently going the other direction, doing poorly in my eating and exercising.

I'm eating 50% junk, and also lots of chocolate.

I'm barely exercising.

I admit it. I'm in a lull...

I'll turn it around in a week or two, then back to shape.

Luckily, I don't really gain weight, but I get tight and in my muscles, and sort of soft in the chest, if that makes sense.

More water the better. Your body is around 60% water, so flushing it out of impurities is always the way to go.
Salt isn't your friend in weight loss...

^^ This!! Water is good, makes you fuller, and has your organs working to process everything as far as digestion, liver function, mental function, etc...

Salt causes you to retain more water. The more salt, the more water you hold, your body has to maintain ratios.... Cut back on seasoning, eat cleaner than normal. You don't have to cut it out, just cut back. It adds up.

In case this is a troll post I responded to, disregard previous.

I buy the Himalyan Pink Salt from Costco. It is said to contain like 80 more mineral types vs regular salt.

I wasn't a believer in it health benefits and weight loss effects until I experiened it myself, I did alot of research about this time last about benefits of it.

Last year I was even adding it to my morning coffee, I was having what the called "Bullet Proof" or Keto coffee to start the day. It was coffee with only grain fed butter from Costco, Organic Heavy Whipping cream and a dash of Salt. No sugar or sugar substitutes

Water weight is pretty easy to put on, and also pretty easy to take off............

Let me see you are the one always posting your fat or you need to loose weight. But you want to disagree with me? Interesting

Water is great for the body, it's the only liquid I take in. But too much water is not good for you.

Your body will naturally excriate impurities by urination or sweating

I said Pink Himalyan Salt, not regular table salt. Drinking alot of water and tryin to loose weight isn't a good combo. Drink water when you feel thirsty, don't force your body to drink so many ounces of water per day, as I said you get a lot of water out of the food you eat daily.

Re: 2021 Weight Loss/Get Healthy Thread - 01/22/21 03:59 PM

"Let me see you are the one always posting your fat or you need to loose weight."

Not sure if this is referring to me, but that's inaccurate. I signed up and have been encouraging others... I never said anything about the kind of salt either, or anything about drinking excessive amounts of water.... Here is an article that goes over the benefits of drinking water including a study that shows over 40% of men in their 20s-50s aren't drinking the recommended amount of water to stay properly hydrated, for those age 71+ that number goes to 94.7% that aren't meeting guidelines. If it works for you go for it but saying that you get most of the water you need from what you eat depends entirely on diet so it can't just be considered a base line for everyone. Respectfully, this is supposed to be about supporting one another and providing information to help. So here is some information on the benefits, along with that study information. Looking forward to seeing everyone's numbers beginning of next month! Have a good weekend.

I got zero water from the almonds I've been eating today...but plenty from the gallon jug sitting next to me. Water is essential and important....the benefits I've seen are great. Better skin, more alert, better sleep...the list goes on. I work out 5 days a week, every week...without more water than just being thirsty, I couldn't function. Also, there's as much research on the health benefits of pink salt (if any) as there are truths told on CNN.

I need to get in on this. I'm at 230 as of yesterday morning. Would love to be at 190-ish.

Are you guys using any official type of diet? I've been debating Noom or similar. Wife and I are crazy busy right now, so cooking every night is out. A good meal prep plan probably makes way more sense, but that's not something I've ever done before.

Then join us! I'm sure one of the guys will message you and we can get you added on, the more the better. Everyone is doing something different as far as diet/exercise... Meal Prep and Meal cook at home delivery is popular. I think it's just finding what works for you and your lifestyle/routine. Best of luck!

We got ya in patriot07. At the first of every month, each participant will give their feedback on weight loss and how it worked for them. Anything you would like to add in order to help someone else become healthier, please do so. I know I'm not too keen about this first month's results. Why? Because I haven't stuck to it like I said I was gonna do. I guess I have to chalk it up as "getting accustomed to new lifestyle". Hogwash! It's because I don't want it bad enough and I've crammed the wrong things into my piehole!. I have re-energized my thought process and now back into it fully, and doing it the right way.

For my exercise, I have been walking more than when I used to walk/jog. I’ve been going on a 5.5mi walk at least 4 days a week vs 3.5mi walk/jog. Do you think a brisk walk is enough to get your cardio workout? I’m only walking now until I lose more weight. Then, I’ll start the walk/jog again. I love the feel of a runner’s high but it is hard when I have a few excess pounds on. Hurts my knees a little too much.

I'd say do whatever hurts your joints less. Once those lbs come off you can start kicking up the speed a little bit. When I was over 240 last year I had to take it slow for a few months because it was killing my joints, then once I had some lbs off I could start working it up more and more... Great job!!

Great job!! Diet is a huge part, you can't out train a bad diet!! I backslide this week, between school work, watching the stock market, and drinking after playing stocks I probably put a few lbs back on. I managed to get a few runs in but my knee was sore. Looking forward to ramping it up this next month. Hope everyone else is kicking a$$!

Suhweeet, BC! We will all have our lulls, but we gotta remember to get back in it to win it. If we want it bad enough, we can do it!

Two more days until 1st month results......

Good luck to all and let’s keep rolling.

Make something like this for Super Bowl. Don't blow all of your hard work. At least this meal is somewhat healthy unless you eat the whole thang! You can have two big glasses of vino...approved!

So awesome, Bob, and so glad to hear. Some days will be better than others, remember. I'm reading the book "The Fast Diet" by Dr. Michael Mosely. If you're interested in any kind of a fasting diet, I will get this book to you when I'm done. It has helped me.

Re: 2021 Weight Loss/Get Healthy Thread - 02/12/21 11:57 AM

This IF thing seems to be the most productive measure for me so far on my journey to weight loss, Intermittent Fasting. I just finished a book on IF (The FastDiet by Dr. Michael Moseley), and if anyone would like to read it, I'll be happy to mail you the book. It describes a lot of variations of IF, expectations, meal preps, foods, etc. The author likes the 5:2 method, associating days instead of hours. My plan is hours. I fast every day. I've revised my plan from 16:8 to 18:6. I can only eat between 11am-5pm, 6 hours outta the day. This has put a crunch on meals with the family, but I gotta get through another 18lbs before I decide to change it up again. Since I'm not traveling for work, I'm able to accomplish this. My wife doesn't get home from work until 6:30pm or so, but she usually has dinner made for her when she arrives so it's not that big of gripe. Let's keep fighting the fight, folks. We're gonna win big in the end, and feel so much better by accomplishing our goal.

I am 5'8" and started out at 225 on October 25 doing Keto. About Christmas I added in 18/6 IF eating my meals between 10 am and 4 pm..As of today, 2/12 I am at an even 190 for a 35 lb weight loss with a goal weight of 165. Not bad for an old man of 72

Congratulations to you, sir. I know you feel much better as well. I bet all of your vitals are in check and you’re looking good, too. You and I both are living examples that IF works. It takes a couple of weeks to get acclimated, but once you do it’s pretty simple to follow. Again, great job!

Surprisingly I weighed 209.4 this morning. I have definitely missed the gym and diet has been off as well all week. I attribute it to stress and working like crazy trying to keep a plant open and running.

Re: 2021 Weight Loss/Get Healthy Thread - 02/22/21 04:17 PM

Unfortunately, I gained 5lbs through all of this weather last week. The reason is because I chowed down like a hound dawg for about 8-9 days. I only drank two nights. So right now, I'm the same weight as I weighed on Feb 1st. It's time to really get widdit. I only have 8 days until March 1st weigh-in. Boom chugalugga, boom chugalugga.....or is it chocolatay, chocolatay?

I just saw this and want to be in the club with all the 'COOL" kids.

I need to get down to 185 and want to maintain at 185 to 190 while gaining muscle mass. As of today, I am 192 but plan on hitting the gym to hit 185 by the end of the month. Let's do this!!!
Posted By: Okie Poke

Re: 2021 Weight Loss/Get Healthy Thread - 07/22/21 09:52 AM

I'm not sure just how "COOL" the kids are, but we'll let you become the official spokesperson and weighmaster. Glad you're joining. We need more participation from all the fat azzes out there, so come on in boys. I, for one, resemble that remark. I'm starting again on Aug 1st...just like I said I would. Hoping I can weigh in at 230 or so on Aug 1. My goal is 215 by Dec 31st, and I will get there. I'm dragging it out but just need to make my goal weight by year's end. Then I may shoot for sub 200 for 2022. That sounds like a great goal. I haven't been below 200 since the 80's.

Blue...please let us know when your first acceptance speech will be on your new position with "The Phat-Azzes Cool Kids Club".

I've been watching calories and being more active for awhile now. I keep my daily intake under 1700 and walk a minimum of 3 miles everyday.
I started at 212.4 as my all-time high and this morning weighed in at 180.6. Took me about 14 months.

What hours do you eat/not eat?

I'm down from 245 to 230 in the last month doing slim4life. The diet is stupidly restrictive though, and unless you are just a full time cook for yourself or your wife cooks a lot (mine cooks almost none) I don't think you can stick to it 100%.

Intermittent fasting does not work as it is often touted/explained. By this, I mean you cannot eat whatever you freaking want as long as you fast 16 hours a day. There are several studies on this, the largest of which was recently released. I have done it since September 1, 2021. I eat from 12 to 8, or I can, but really I eat from 12 to 6 or 630 most days. The reason it works for me, or why it has helped me, is I am a grazer. If I am bored, upset, food is just laying out, etc., I would eat. This, however, has limited the times I can eat, so it has limited the amount of calories I would mindlessly consume. I am not a person that eats a lot of bad food, and haven't in over 20 years. I am, however, a person that overconsumes too much of the good stuff. My meals also used to primarily consist of protein and one side (usually mashed russet potatoes). Now, my meals are about 40% protein, and the rest is made up of carbs from fresh veggies like squash (yellow and zucchini), spaghetti squash, baked/mashed sweet potatoes, radishes, corn on the cob, brown rice about once every 10 days, onions, sauteed mushrooms, roasted eggplant, roasted beets, etc. I do have an avocado a day for the fat, and I eat 93%/7% ground turkey, baked salmon, lean ground chicken, chicken leg quarters (skinless), canned tuna, etc. for proteins. I eat watermelon, cantaloupe, raspberries, blueberries, and bananas for 'sweets'. I have lost 77.8 pounds since 9/1/21. It's not a lot, granted, but it is fat loss, not muscle, not water. I also don't gain weight back if I have a day where I have a small piece of cake at a birthday. The main thing is watching your calories and eating nutrient dense foods that are low in calories and don't spike your glycemic levels. I eat about 1400 to 1800 calories a day, but I eat WAY MORE food than I did before, it's just the foods I eat are low calorie foods, but very nutrient dense.

Oh, and before this last month, I was losing 12 to 16 pounds a month while swimming. It took me 10 weeks to lose 6 pounds when I did just intermittent fasting. Also, in the beginning I was eating cheese and dairy products and I have learned those do not like me and actually slowed my weight loss. So, once I figured all that out by about April and got my diet figured out, things started going much, much better.

great work!

Thanks! I'm working really hard! I would like to reach my goal by the end of February, but we'll see. I hate that I put most of the weight back on that I lost in 2012 and 2013, but I am an emotional eater and losing my uncle in 2013 was really hard on me.
