Jon Boat Project

Jon Boat Project - 06/12/20 11:37 PM

I acquired an old 10 ft. no name flat bottom Jon boat. I'm making some mods to it so that it will be less noisy on the water and a bit more comfortable. It came with a 17 lb. thrust trolling motor and a couple of seats. Thinking of adding a 30 lb T/M. Working on flooring now. Maybe some 6" seat risers and lights next.

Weight will be the real issue in that boat, try to be as minimal as possible.

Yeah, the floors might be all I can do to it.

If there are no leaks, I’d do something simple like the insulation board then horse stall mat Jon boat floor
Quick, inexpensive, low weight, adds some secondary floatation.

The foam board and stall mat is a genius idea that I didn't think of. Thanks!

Will those black mats get too hot for bare feet?

I used cheap rubber backed carpet in my little jon back in the day. Works great and a quick carwash cleaning was all it took. I hauled mine in the bed of my truck so I had to keep it light!

Re: Jon Boat Project - 05/05/22 01:14 AM

in my experience , the horse stall mats are too heavy
foam soaks up water and becomes too heavy
put some treated wood down and put some outdoor rug carpet down on it and the benches . they sell 10x10 for about 19 bucks at home depot
get a couple rugs and some spray glue and as far as the risers for the seats , get them as close to the bench height as possible in that size boat or you will feel tippy and wish you were lower
trust me ...
