sea rim state park surf fishing - 09/03/17 05:03 AM

I am going to be down there on September 16 through 19. I am going to camp on beach and fish all day and night. I really want to catch a shark. Any suggestions on where. Anywhere on the beach? I have seen threads where people are catching reds and sharks. I got myself 3 penn spinfisher V 8500. I like to set up my own thing and not just buy a set up leader with hook. Kinda takes the fun outta it. Pretty much every thing is saying braided line. What says ya'll? These 3 reels will take a ton and am just not sure brand or kind. I am a salt water virgin. I will take any advice ya'll have. Thanks.

Unless there is something that you want to do in the park, I'd pass it up an enter McFaddin about a mile or so down. Have you enough line on the reel to get the bait out passed the 3rd gut and a good leader a bit longer than the size shark you are targeting to avoid getting tail whipped. Oh yeah, don't park on the grass or on the dunes if you go to McFaddin. Those Federal guys don't like that to much and neither will you if you get a ticket.

I catch them out of a kayak so I'm not really that much help.

Current Sea Rim status per TPWD:

We are planning on being down there September 30. I hope it is open by then.
