San Luis Pass

San Luis Pass - 08/24/02 02:22 AM

I'm going to Galveston September 14th for a week of saltwater fishing and will be staying in Sea Isle. Would like to put in at the Marina there and go out San Luis Pass, but have been getting advice not to go out that pass. Anyone familiar with going in and out of the pass that can give me some the scoop?

They say that because it is a rougher pass than most and also because on the way out you need to stay to your left. If you just sit a few minutes and watch the other boats going out you should be fine. Just follow them out! It is worth the excellent fishing there.
Good fishing!

ps. if you need an extra hand to fish I would be more than happy to oblige. I just love to fish, and I live a short drive away from the pass, like 20 minutes.

That might be a possibility! We have hired Mike Williams for Tarpon fishing on Monday, but the rest of the week through Friday is open. What day are you available, and what is your offshore experience?

I am available most anyday with a days notice when it comes to fishing. As far as my experience I just love to fish. Have been offshore many times with friends. Went on a few party boats, not really my style though. What will you be fishing for? I just enjoy fishing be it from a boat, bank, wading, or whatever. Good luck.

Hey, SW....Let us know how it goes with Mike Williams. I've seen his website and it's quite impressive. But, I'd like to hear from a client. Hope ya hook into a monster tarpon! Good luck and keep us informed on how it went. Thanks.

Here is my professional opinion of Mike Williams. He is without a doubt the most unprofessional guide I have ever meet.I am a striper guide at lake texoma and I fish the month of august in the Galveston area.Every time mike saw me this year he would drive right up to my boat and try to say that I am following him.My customers could not believe the nerve of this guy.Mike has been a guide in the Galveston area for a long time and I respect that, but this guy is way out of line when he drives right up to my boat upsetting me and my customers. If I see mike i always stay at least a quarter mile away if he would do the same we would not have any problems.Good luck and be careful in that pass it can be very dangerous when the current is strong. We caught a 150lb tarpon sunday the 25th in 37ft 20 miles east of the pass. Please report about your trip with mike on this forum .Hopfully he is not as rude to his customers as he is to me.Capt. My brother & I fished with Mike Williams on Monday 9/16 and I am happy to say that we had a great trip with Mike. It was pouring rain, but we caught 25 bull reds and then went Tarpon fishing. Unfortunately, no tarpon, but my brother caught another bull red out by the six mile rig while drifting. Mike also told us where to fish for tarpon and shark on the west end of galveston island and we had a very successful trip on our own.

I have no problem recommending Mike to anyone. He is personable, very knowledgeable, has a good fishing platform in the 25 foot Boston Whaler and most important, knew where to catch fish.

For a little perspective on the Steve Barnes post, visit Texastarpon.net message board and read the posts about the "red boat" that were posted back in August.

Wow this Mike Williams is unbelievable.I am glad you guys had a good trip.I really dont know why Mike is on my case.but it really is kinda funny how we can be in the middle of the gulf and run across each other as often as we do.Thankfully I dont have to fish down there again until August.Capt.
