My dad I like to take the kayaks out past the breakers and catch black tips and hammerheads at packery channel but lately we havnt had much luck at all. Is it just the wrong time of year? Whats the best bait to use? And Ive also been told that if you go where the blue water and the brown water meet that youll find sharks there. Any tips or advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks
getsthereds,
I mainly fish the uppercoast (mainly high island area). Sometimes we trek over and fish along the coast up to Gorda. June-September is what I consider my months to target sharks, w/ July & August being most productive. We always look for a color change and fish it. If there's no apparent color, I look for signs of bait activity, tide lines, slicks,etc...and fish it. If there's no color change, bait activity,slicks,etc...then we usually paddle out and start fishing at around 200 yds and keep moving further out until we find our targeted species. We will mainly drift baits under a balloon. Ray, shad, mullet are choice of baits with ray being the most productive.
