Someone tell me what to use off the Surfside Beach / Freeport jetty to catch fish ?
I got plenty of time
I got plenty of gear
I just need a kick-start and you tube videos are all about the guy catching and not what the baits / lures are
morning -- noon --night

Live shrimp will catch just about anything. You can put it under a popping cork, or you can rig it up numerous ways to fish the bottom, or you can free line it.

There will be some folks here that will give you advise based on tides and weather conditions, but I've never had the luxury of planning that way. I fish when I am there. The most sure-fire time to catch fish in the surf is when you have birds working. Put on a zara spook or something you can cast a mile and throw it right where the birds are diving.

Yeah it's hard to beat the "just catch something" power of live shrimp.

They're a bit tedious to lug around if you want to be mobile, but...

I use a slip cork rig when using live shrimp.........and fresh cut bait Carolina rigged for bottom fishing. I use 20# mainline and at least 30# "fluro leader line"....18-24" for my trout using the slip cork method.. Got plenty of arti's but rarely use them.

I have always had good success with down south lure chicken on a chain paddle tails. Rig on a jighead of your choice or use under a weightless foam popping cork. I like the ability to move around without lugging bait.

Top water (Jr spook bone), 3/4 ounce gold spoon, DSL paddle tails, gulp shrimp under paradise bomber (not the popper version). VUDU shrimp under paradise bomber. That's all I carry when on foot.

I use a spinfisher VI 2500 with 20lbs power pro braid, medium fast action rod.

Unsure how to use any of those lures, YouTube : "lure name" technique.

Start with shrimp and when you catch a non-gamefish, cut it up and throw it out as cut bait. Put that rod in a holder and keep fishing with shrimp or lures. Oh and make sure you have a good holder or the rod will disappear. roflmao
