Galveston Late September

Made Galveston plans for a guided trip for Bull Reds (CPR) late September. Do you guys think that is too early or should I wait till October ?

October is usually better, but you should do fine in late Sept. I always do and I'll be down in 2 weeks hoping for the same. You having a guide is a plus too!

No offense here but I wouldn't invest any money on a Guided Trip. You can fish a lot of places to catch those things unless you just wanna be in a boat. Most likely a guide would take you to the end (The Tip) of the South Jetties...or maybe Feener Flats if he knows where that is. Good luck and have fun what ever you decide.

Went mid to late September a few years ago. We left out of Galveston and fished down at the mouth of the Brazos. We had 4 rods in the water and I spent about 3 hours just moving from rod to rod reeling in fish. My arms were worn out within an hour. The smallest red was about 25". I think time of year will be just fine for you. As far as going with guides, I prefer fishing backwater and I love DIY fishing, but every now and then its fun to just go catch and not deal with any of the rest. I'm going to be down there the 19th-22nd and hope to find them myself. Have fun.

You should have a fun trip, If you're guide is on them or following them and a respectable redfish captain then it will be well worth the trip. September should be fine. Bulls will be in the area from mid Sept thru November.

Late September Bull Reds with my Daughter. Went out with a guide on the Olivia J out of Freeport and fished the Brazos mouth. We had an amazing time fishing.

Are the Redfish good to eat over 28 in. I see we get one stamp with license but not sure if they are any good to eat that large. If it's like Channel and Blue Catfish I prefer smaller eater size under 5 LB..

Yep. I cleaned a 40+ last year. Took a strong knife to filet but cut around the deep red. Added fresh shrimp we caught with net....good oood.

You get one tag on license. Then you can buy a bonus tag anytime.

We are able to target them year round but it is starting to get good and will be for a couple months on those bulls. I have a lot of customers that want the bull reds specifically. When they running good this time of year they come with both tags and ready to fill em!!! We filet a lot of those big bulls.....

Like anything else yes absolutely a 20" is better eating than a 50" but you do get a ton of meat. We trim out the red blood meat and most people fry theirs, do it on the half shell (grilled scales side down), or any of your other favorite recipes. It really makes a difference how they are handled after the catch and careful trimming out thar red blood meat.

The last picture won first, second, and fourth in the bull red division. And first in the any big fish division.... they won a lot in that tourney....

What do you guys think all this rain will do for the Bull Red fishing in Galveston in a week or so.

I have the same question thinking of going next week. 9/27. I know it’s hard fishing in the lower laguna after hard rain. Idk about Galveston though. Hopefully the surf is calm we can take the boat out deep.

We made it to Galveston. Weather too rough to fish beach front for Tarpon and Sharks. But had a great time with the Bull Reds and a nice Black drum.
