Recommendation for guided Galveston fishing trip. - 03/12/18 04:42 PM

I am headed to Galveston July 23-27 and was wanting to take my son fishing. Any recommendations? Thinking about a Bay fishing trip? Is fishing pretty good during that time of year?

it's awful hot in July. i'd get a guide for 1/2 day, maybe east bay over deep shell and be back at the dock at Topwater Grill by noon having a cool drink and lunch.

We went in July a couple of summers ago and used guide Michael LaRue. Three of us limited on trout on reefs in Galveston and East Bays. He worked hard and I highly recommend him. His son just recently caught new state record tarpon with him as captain.

July can be hot for sure. Trout are a little smaller and more finicky but a good guide will know how to catch plenty that time of year. Another option might be Chad Wright.. the guy fishes croaker on the jetties and catches some BIG trout during that time of year when everyone else is measuring dinks... might even get the chance to chase a tarpon with him if the weather is right. How old is your son?

Other noteworthy guides good with kids are Bobby Lavender and Tim Bradbeer for Galveston, and Genn Ging for Matagorda.
