Boat and motor title after payoff

Boat and motor title after payoff - 06/19/20 12:27 AM

I recently paid off my loan on my boat end of May. I received my vessel title in the mail from the bank but not the motor title. I was told a different company issues the motor title. Did this happen when you paid off your loan? I figured I would receive both titles from the bank. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply. It was all financed as one. Haven’t had much success with the bank. Guess I’ll just have to keep waiting.

In Texas, both vessel and outboard motor titles are issued by the TPWD. Trailer titles, if required, are issued by TxDOT.

You should have a copy of the motor title that shows who holds the lien. I would take that document along with proof that the loan has been paid off to the lien holder.of record and not leave until you have an answer. It may be that the bank never had a lien on the motor? Maybe the bank has not filed the paperwork with the TPWD to release the lien? Maybe it takes longer than 1 month?

If you don't have a copy of the motor title, I would be calling the TPWD to see who holds the title.

You can check online at
TPWD Boat/Motor Ownership Inquiry to see if the information available there sheds any light.

There are several things that could have happened here. It could be very simple that the mail for that piece was lost. Often things are mailed separately and USPS is always a gamble.
Your first contact should be your lender. You should also get a "release of lien" letter from the bank for all three items. In our experience with this, banks are generally not the best at finishing up the details.
Not sure who did your loan but in our business, we do the lien work.
Let me know if we can help.
I am out o the office this week but text works fine.
Thank you,
Ken
