Urban Fishin - Turtle Creek, Dallas - 03/20/17 02:56 PM

Caught this guy with a tiny plastic grub, he was on a bed. I was just happy to get such a neat photo.

That place is full of bass!

Re: Urban Fishin - Turtle Creek, Dallas - 03/20/17 07:16 PM

and the water is super clear!

I have fished here several times over the last couple of years. I saw more this weekend then ever before. Several on bed, probably why I notice so many.

I fished another on a bed for about 1hr, tried everything I had but no luck.

I bet the pond on the other side of Lemmon would be some good fishing.

As much as I have fished in this spot I've been too lazy to walk over there since I park by that old theater tucked into the woods behind the creek.

I noticed a couple of guys fishing on Saturday. Any reports???

If any of you guys were to guess , what would you think would be the primary forage? Crawfish, bluegills???

If I had to guess, with it being a creek, I would say smaller fish species (Bluegill, bass minnows) and crawdad's would be the primary forage. I'm sure they will eat other bugs and stuff including birds if they have the chance. I've seen bass eat baby ducks before. The bass was big enough to inhale the entire bird though.

Re: Urban Fishin - Turtle Creek, Dallas - 05/15/17 06:40 PM

I have been fishing here about 2-3 times a week for the past 3 months. Mostly just for Largies.

I have caught bass here mostly on plastic worms\lizards\swimbaits, plastic frogs, and recently crankbaits (chartreuse with a black top.

a few bass seem to still be spawning (surprisingly). I noticed a bed this weekend between the 2 lemon ave bridges right up against the walkway.

The creek is full of bluegill and they all just spawned in the past few weeks so you will see alot of little fingerlings.

I like the creek because it's easy to sight fish. I have also noticed that nothing ever seems to work consistently so I'm constantly changing up my color and presentations.

I'm going to make a map of the places that i have fished on the creek because there are alot of little hidden spots that seem to never get fished since they are not part of the main park area at Lemon.

Also the creek turns into a pond if you go north up to Fitzhugh. You can catch some nice bass surrounded by multi million dollar homes.

Nothing special but I caught this guy last ngiht.

Very under-rated fishing spot in the city. Lots of activity in the creek, and the LMB population is healthy, ranging from dinks to monsters. I pulled a 5.5 out last year, and have seen others on beds that look like they were 6+. This spring I haven't landed anything huge, just a lot of solid fish. Here are a couple that went 3.5 and 3, both at 18"+. Soft plastics have always worked well.

Well the decision has been made to give it a go on Sunday morning, if the forecast allows.

I had pulled out a number of 2-4 lb'ers this year but nothing huge until yesterday. She went 5 1/4 lbs and just under 21". The creek was not in prime condition - water clarity was stained and quite a bit of leaves & debris still floating around (I'm assuming from the recent heavy rains). But I saw her in ~1' of water hanging around a bluegill bed, probably waiting on an easy meal. Got her on the 2nd cast with a stickbait. Put up a great fight, and had a lot of cool-looking black spots in her markings. Love to fish the Creek!

I fish TC primarily from Stonebridge Dr all the way up to Exall Lake. Yesterday's catch was on a stretch south of Avondale. Great creek to fish, especially when it's running clear. Not so much after a heavy rain!

Were you down at Stonebridge? that's a cool little area. I've fished almost the entire creek where accessible. I dont mind when it rain's I've has success there too. they like to get up on the bank when it rains.

Stonebridge is a cool area, but for some reason I've never snagged a big one there. Thanks for the tip on fishing the banks after rain. I typically avoid the creek after decent rain, but I'll give it a try using your advice.

Are there channel cats or is it full of bullheads?

Ive caught cats, but they only tend to be in the areas of turtle creek that they have made into ponds. I've never seen any in the creek portion.

I know they are here - Turtle Creek (Pond Highland Park) - Google Maps

I work fairly close to this water, might as well try it for some LMB. smile

I love this little pond in Highland Park. Caught some really nice bass and catfish here.

Re: Urban Fishin - Turtle Creek, Dallas - 06/26/17 06:35 PM

I went out there on Sunday morning with my fly rod and some green poppers. Saw one small rise but no real action to speak of. Was probably a little too muddy due to the rain but this is a really nice spot.

Re: Urban Fishin - Turtle Creek, Dallas - 07/10/17 01:26 AM

Can confirm. The pond south of Exall lake is good. My son and I did ok from about 9am-12pm today.

Didn't have a scale, but this guy felt like a 2 to 3 lb-er. We caught a few others that were smaller, all LMB.

Edit: We hit the creek downstream first, but didn't see/feel anything but blue gill and other bait fish.

Where do you park near Stonebridge along Turtle Creek?

I literately park right on the road right before the bridge. Not the private bridge to the right.

Never had a single issue. Also I've had more success on the lower side below the bridge. You will see what I mean if you have never fished there before.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Looking at this pic, it is safe to park on the right side of the creek? I'm familiar with TC area but never fished here. Live in Richardson and mostly fish Twin Lakes in Richardson, good channel cats, bass, bluegills. Looking for new spots since I've overfished this area. Can see my pics on Fish Brain app. check it out, great source of spots (premium member only) and lots of pics. If youre on there, add me FishBud70.

Caught my PB Turtle Creek bass yesterday. I did post this on the bass section but I wanted to make sure all my fellow bank fishers saw it too! The spots on this thing are crazy.
