Many of us have fishing superstitions and rituals prior to tournaments or just going out fishing. Whats yours?

The night before a tournament, I put junk lures on my rods.
I say a prayer to do my best, safety for all, and to judge fairly.
The day of a tournament I try to get there early for some more prayer and game plan strategy

I've gotten back into the ritual of spraying or rubbing some scent on the lure before I cast it out and after every time I touch the lure.

I don't really have any superstitions. I'm still trying to find something. I thought I found it when I got my first tournament win. But I tried it last weekend and it didn't work lol

Never take a stringer or anything else to keep fish in. And never, ever take very much bait. And if you really want to catch a ton of fish, forget the beer.

The two that I remember from growing up in Hawaii were:

1. Never take bananas on a fishing trip.
2. Never say specifically where or when you were going fishing.

Re: superstitions - 08/23/13 01:17 AM

Bananas & coolers

But I've got plenty of ways to bring in a little luck wink

Re: superstitions - 09/09/13 04:11 PM

Never, EVER tell me good luck. My wife and kids always tell me "bad luck" when I walk out the door.

Never bring a landing net. Every time I bring one, I get skunked.

Re: superstitions - 09/10/13 04:04 AM

I agree with the "dad" one, he always ends up using swivels because he is to lazy to tie a knot...and uses old lures from the 1950-1960 era with the paint chipped and looking horrible. kicked my a** on the last two trips with 50 year old tackle!

I have my wife spit on a new hook lol

Re: superstitions - 09/19/13 10:33 PM

I have my wife punch me in the junk before I walk out the door. It can only get better from there. Even if I don't win, still better than how the morning started.
j/k
I re-tie all my tackle. Make sure my equipment is in tip top shape. I repack my tackle. I set out the clothes I'm going to wear and I pickcertain colors depending on the weather. I always wear a certain hat. If I'm just going fishing... I throw everything in the bed of my truck and wave goodbye as I'm pulling out of the driveway.

My mother always said if the cows are laying down the fish aren't biting. Well after a couple times, possibly coincidence, of this being true I now always glance at cattle as I"m on my way to the lake.

Re: superstitions - 09/20/13 02:23 PM

I always heard if the cows were eating the fish were too...

Re: superstitions - 09/21/13 10:47 PM

Re: superstitions - 10/17/13 04:22 AM

My dad used to take me up to the mountains in CO a few times each summer to go fishin for trout, and along our route there was a tunnel... I would beg him to honk a bunch of times going through the tunnel, because he told me we would catch a fish for each honk...

the cooler/igloo thing has got to be one of the worse omen ever...
lower expectation, whether if it's having your other half smash your junk or what ever floats your boat will indeed make your day seem like it can only improve smile

Never fish in a hat you bought. Must wear a " Gimmee "
hat.

Said hat will only have X # of really good fish in it.

It is a judgement call when to abandon an old hat and break
in a new one.

All luck resides in your hat.

If I see anything dead on the walk to the bank, or if I see/hear a snake 5 ft from me, I turn around. Lol don't know why, but I have NEVER caught fish after those two things.
