Bank Fishing for Crappie at Night

Bank Fishing for Crappie at Night - 04/11/10 06:06 AM

I've seen several on here that fish for Crappie at night, but I assume that they are using a boat.

Nnw this is a total Noob question, but has anyone on here fished for them at night from the bank? Wondering what sort of other/additional equipment you take. What type of light equip works best. Something like a Coleman Lantern or I have a headlamp that I've used while camping, but not sure if it would fit the bill.

Just wondered how the technique differs from daytime Crappie fishing - lure color, presentation, etc.

Thanks,

Caught 8 crappie tonight, 1 bluegill, and 1 LMB.Only equipment i took was a pack of blue/white tube jigs, one pack of 1/16th. oz UNPAINTED jig heads, one 5 ft Quantum Optix 10 UL rig, 6 lb Berkley Trilene XL line, a stringer and a net.

I know ten fish isn't many, but i only fished for 35 minutes, between 10 PM and 10:35 PM.

Just proves it can be done.

Caught around 20 crappies the other day... but only 5 or 6 keepers...

I caught them with minnows, nightcrawlers and jig that i bought from finny tribe.

Plus, caught around 5 LMB w/ black spinnerbait. Unfortunately, all of the LMB are a bit undersized... around 12 to 13"...

This year I only went to Lake Ray Roberts and it (Isle Du Bois) has a fishing pier and I usually do pretty well there... and a lot of crappies! I hate when people take small crappies and goes over a daily bag limit! Some people are just too greedy!

when fishing is tough, their integrity gets loose.. don't matter what race... i guess crappies are that good... I explicitly asked one guy if those fish are too small to keep. He said, it's well over 10. But it was barely over 9, i know cuz i have caught a good number of undersized this year... I am talking bout a person well equipped and with long time experience of fishing... Surprised to see that... Anyway, i didn't argue... I bet if fishing is good, they wouldn't keep those undersized...

RA, based on my experience, they bite good during night time... and bigger... More fun... that light stick action is awesome to watch...

Cool Dunk; have to get out there with my lighted bobber and insect repellent and give it a try!
