Benbrook?

Benbrook? - 06/30/20 01:19 PM

So I'm off Friday but my wife has to work so figured I would go fishing. Looking at google earth to try and find somewhere to go and I spotted this big peninsula on Benbrook. It's on Peninsula Road. I can see a bunch of cars parked out there in the google earth pic. I assume they're fishing.

Anyone ever been here? Is the fishing any good? Anyone know anything about this spot? Any info is appreciated.

That spot is ok for shore fishing. Its mostly sand but if you see were your map says 2020 google. There's some trees there. You might be able to cast right to edge of them. I've caught some nice bass along them in my boat. The point fills up with people as the sun comes up.

Thanks for the info. With how hot it is during the day I was thinking about paying the camping fee and night fishing so I'm wondering if there might be some blues out there.

Looks like Mustang Park.
FYI, it is now day use only, no camping.
I guess you could fish all night, as long as you do not have a tent up.

Appreciate the heads up. I'll probably call and ask about that. The website says you have to pay for camping if you want to stay past closing time.

That area can get pretty crowded.

There is nobody manning the guard shack now, so you can enter for free. My guess is the Corps comes around at closing time to lock the gate.
There is a one way exit for after hours .

Last year I seen a very large catfish caught out of there but it was on the other end of the lake at the marina that gets very crowded. My scale only went up to 50lbs and it was bigger than that as we got error when trying to weigh it. He headed to the marina to see if they could weigh it for him. Not sure what the official weight was on it. I was thinking it was close to 50lbs but might have just been a little over max for my scale that I had at that time. I now have a cheap one that goes up to 500lbs and a high end scale that only goes to 15lbs for largemouth as thats what I focus on catching.

The fishing there is good when the wind is out of the north for a couple of days, which doesnt happen very often
not much structure there

Thanks for the info folks. After more consideration, I think I'm going to avoid parks all together with this being a holiday weekend. Might just pull out the wagon and go to some of my more off the beaten path spots. But we'll see.
