Lake Grapevine - 01/23/18 04:30 AM

Looking at going out to McPherson Slough tomorrow to try to do some cat fishing. Anybody have any experience at this particular place? Or any suggestions on other places to go on Lake Grapevine?

Made it to the fishing pier at 7:30, fished for roughly 3 hours with anything from chicken livers and shrimp to the basic worms, not a single bite all day. Im guessing that the water is still too cold for them to move up into the shallower water

Try in May/June and you will do a lot better. The bigger cats are probably in 20-40 ft right now.

Try Murrell park on the rock points. Cast out as far as you can. Cut shad if you can get it, otherwise night crawlers.

Grapevine can be a bear to fish. It fishes different than a lot of others. Crappie, sandies and catfish all seem to spawn later on Grapevine. You must have intimate knowledge of structure on it to be consistent on it .Also water levels play a big part too. If you learn the lake it will provide plenty of action and fillets for you.

I had to go see how it looked with my boy, over by Scott's Landing. eeks It was something else knowing where we were fishing the bank, was now a couple of feet under water. The floating fire ant colonies were a surprise too.
