Crab fly

Crab fly - 02/16/15 11:08 PM

I Have had flash back of hot spring and summer days living here on the island. Lately it's starting to warm up and fish are beginning to move shallow and with that being said I thought redfish do enjoy eating crabs. So here's a little crab pattern that I hope happens to be killer.

Wildside-

That's a great looking crab pattern. Would you mind sharing your recipe or an SBS on tying your fly?

Thanks in advance.

Hey thanks Bill,
I can't take credit for the pattern just thought it would be a fun tie. Heres a list of things of materials I used in order as the way they are tied.

1. Size 2 gamakatsu sl12
2. clear mono threar
3. kraken skin dubbing tied right off the shank
4. medium size chenille in a tan color, knotted to create claws
5. Glass bead/epoxy eyes
6. Dub the shank up to the eye of the hook for a buggy underside look
7. I used heavy dumbbell eyes but I tied some with medium and they work great
8. cut out a foam body with standard craft foam, then super glue it to where the mono and chenille are some what covered by the " shell"
9. cut for strands of 40lb mono glue them in and apply epoxy to the top and bottom to secure all the wraps.
10. trim the legs and take a bodkin heated up with a lighter to create a 90 degree bend in the mono legs then trim to size.
last but not least
11. Tie to tippet and cast to tailing redfish! enjoy and like I said i can't take credit for this creation just added my own little touches
