Fuzzy Bill dry

Fuzzy Bill dry - 02/09/22 01:06 PM

I'm often in my marina at sun-up. There is about a half hour period when the birds start massing on the covered docks, then swooping to take something off the water while fish are rising as well. I suspect it is emerging phantom midges. I found a vid where a guy was tying for a similar insect, and he used some duck lead wing for the trailing shuck. I finished the fly using rust antron, and a turkey feather snippet, posting the butts a bit, then teasing legs and mouth parts to match the adults I see everywhere. The link names these fuzzy bills, so I guess that would be a good name for this pattern. Sorry for the fuzzy pic. Sz 18 Allen N201.

Nice looking fly. Anything I tie on a smaller hook looks terrible! That should get bit
