Nice work Skip......I can't get away from hackle to try anything else.....
Thank you! I understand and it's hard, but when I user to tie all guys didn't want the same thing. Some guys want kip tail jigs, some want hackle and some want marabou and some even want Bucktail or another kind of hair or synthetic material. There are so many options and probably not a good idea to jump on the all like I did a long time ago. Still have a lot of materials I will dig out and sell at some point along with my fly tying Hackle.
Anyway I would tell you I understand you liking hackle and I do too, but in spring and fall I have to use marabou because I just think it's best then, but I also like Rabbit because it should last longer than marabou, but have seen someone use one Roadrunner for a week and he can 125 crappie before he retired that jig. Still I thunk Rabbit is a lot like marabou and maybe less trouble tying. I mean tying marabou is a huge pain in the rear if done right and with out the stem in the tail. I do have a stem if super thin in maybe 5% to 10% with the stem, but most of my jigs are tied with no stem in the tail. Rabbit, I just tie it in and wrap to the head and make my neck and finish. Also you can not have any moving air (so no fans) if tying marabou, lol!
