Weedless Hand Ties - 05/23/18 11:53 AM

After a lot of work and phone conversations with Crapicat and Redgun I finally got it figured out how to do this. This are still on the testing but will be available soon.

Nice work thumb
One suggestion: bend the weed guard wire just past the hook point so it's parallel or just past parallel with the hook shank. This keeps the end of the weed guard from sticking the fishes mouth and preventing good hook penetration.
I know people say the weed guard never interferes with the hook set, but when they are biting light, it can be a problem in my experience.

Thanks for the tip I will try it. I just figured it had to be on the outside of the hook so it wouldn't get hung up

Keep the wire on the outside of the hook point. Make the bend above (past) the hook point.

Good stuff Ken. I do it one of two ways, either like you said, or I cut the wire at an angle (from the back of the hook) just at the tip, so it blends in seamlessly with the hook tip...not sure which way I like better, but I think Redgun likes the way you suggested, as when he gets done trimming a jig, he seems to bend them that way.

The key take away, I think...is that the weedless hooks, as they come, need a bit of modification to perform optimally.

I am ready to release the weedless jigs now. They have been in testing and they are ready to be available to the public now.

Weedless Jigs will be $1.50 apiece and regular jigs will be $1.25.

If you have facebook I have a page on there https://www.facebook.com/MCMTackle/

If not talk to me thru here and we will get it figured out what you need. I have tons of materials so you are not limited to just the pictures of the ones I posted. You let me know what your favorite combos are and I can come pretty close.

Thank you and I look forward to doing business with you.

Thanks
Shane

If you don't want to bend the hookguard, you can epoxy a very small bead to the end of the wire. It took a little time to perfect, but it sure saves you poking holes in your fingers.
