If you want a bunch of quick tutorials, You Tube is a great place to find some information on building trot lines.
As far as fish heads go, be careful that they're not game fish. Those will make for a real expensive trotlining experience.

A turtle and a catfish smells better than a skunk. Keep after 'em!

Good start for a gumbo. A 5 gallon bucket of sour maize off that dock and you just might make a honey hole there.

Remember Texas has these rules dealing with Trotlines
Trotline
A non-metallic main fishing line with more than five hooks attached and with each end attached to a fixture.
Non-game fish, channel catfish, blue catfish and Flathead catfish may be taken by trotline.
Red drum, spotted seatrout and sharks caught on a trot line may not be retained or possessed.
General Construction and Design Restrictions
Trotlines may not be used with:
a mainline length exceeding 600 feet;
hooks spaced less than 3 horizontal feet apart; metallic stakes; or the main fishing line and attached hooks and stagings placed above the water's surface.
Tag Requirements
Trotlines in fresh water must be used with a valid gear tag. Properly marked buoys or floats qualify as valid gear tags. Gear tags must be attached within 3 feet of the first hook at each end of the trot line and are valid for 10 days after the date set out.

I usually use the top of a can when my wife opens up a can of something. I write on it with a water proof marker. Then attach it with a zip tie.

cut up empty bleach or laundry detergent containers. IF there is a Laundromat near you, you can find empty ones there in the trash most likely.
