40-something blue cat at twin buttes - 03/16/14 02:59 PM

The battery on my scale was dead, but based on the conversion math it says it was 43 lbs. it was 37 inches long and 27 inches in girth. It was definitely a fun catch whatever the size! I was alone so the pics aren't very good but I did my best. Can't wait to get out there again!

Re: 40-something blue cat at twin buttes - 03/17/14 05:12 PM

Thanks y'all. There are definitely some nice blues in Twin Buttes. Here's what I'm wondering....with that lake being in such a sorry state, would it be ethical to remove the catfish from there and transplant them into Nasworthy? It's only a few minutes drive to get there so I'm sure the fish would survive the trip in a cooler. What about the legality? Since Buttes is drained into Nasworhy anyway I don't see how it could hurt. That lake will be dry someday and all those fish will be dead. Why not conserve them? I saw a guy keep a 32 and a 27 while I was fishing to take home and eat. I wish he would've released them, but that was his decision. It seems if we can save the fish from dying off in that lake and give them a chance to flourish somewhere else that would be a good act of conservation. Any thoughts on this?

From public water to public water requires a permit.

Nice fish! They are sure fun to catch....

I have seen a lot of people keeping 30 - 40 pounders lately. I have been turning anything over 15 back. I have hopes of catching them again before the lake dries up. Look for me out there sometime. I drive a Dodge 4 door pick up sage green and desert tan. Usually have 7 or 8 rods out.

I think it would be fine to take them from TB to Nasworthy. With a repeat summer like we have had the last 5 years or so, Buttes will be a dry, ATV track by September. I can't think a game warden around would argue that transport. But, if we aren't careful, Nasworthy won't be far behind TB on going dry. East Texas guys consider a lake low when it is 5 or 6 feet down...they need to see these lakes right now! We don't have to worry about dodging big stumps in ours when they get low, though. Great fish! I went out a month or so ago and got skunked...you guys make it look easy!
