drum- bait or grease? - 02/17/12 07:04 AM

Couldn't catch a blue to save my life today, but caught this nice drum. I have heard that drum makes some good bait, but then again i have heard that it will make some great fish taco's. So what would you do with it?
Grease or Gamakatsu?

It should have a final resting place on the stove.

I would have released it to swim another day! You should always CPR large drum to protect our freshwater gaspergoo resources! You're pretty much the devil if you keep an large drum like that!

rolfmao, thats a good one. Thanks guys for the tips. I forgot that it came out of part of the trinity therefore eating it is %100 out of the question. Half in blood/half in dead red sounds like a plan.. thanks 2fish

I've eaten Goos out of the Trinity, but not in the area around D-FW. My Trinity River fishin' grounds (waterwise) was down about 22 to 25 bends down from TX 21 bridge between Midway/Madisonville & Crockett (about 5 miles down or more aka 20-25 minutes from bridge).

Currently, our Gasper Goo (Freshwater Drum) is coming in from my boss, who is an avid crappie fisherman. Every now & then, he hits a school of Goos & hunkers in for several good fights. Then ices 'em down & passes them my way. My Mom bakes cookies for him. He was joking with one lady game warden how he gets another cookie every time he catches one. Actually she bakes him cookies as thanks for giving us the Goos.

My uncle will fry them whole as to the small ones. But as for me & Mom, I will shave the meat off for boneless strips & chunks. I know how the bones run & can get the most meat meat off (boneless). Next best thing to catfish!!!
