Conroe 12/17 - 12/19/22 02:25 PM

Took a couple friends out Saturday to drag some baits on Lake Conroe. Water temp 62 bait cut carp.
My friend Johnny of Ducktracker Slabs has been hand painting some Demon Dragon type floats with 60 pound leader and 10/0 hook we were trying out . They seemed to work pretty good we caught about 15 fish the biggest 30 lbs. followed by a 13 a couple 10’s and the rest eaters.

Dewayne, great day on the water! Toad season is in full force now. We should see a pretty good uptick of brute pics, especially after this upcoming front. Those fish will really start to stack up.

I love using carp. It's a really hardy bait. I can usually catch 3 or 4 fish on each bait before I have to change it. Was it the only bait you used or did you have some shad as well?

Curious if those fish were on shallower flats? I haven't been to the lake in a while, but it seems 62 is pretty warm for right now.

Btw, I think those Smackdown's are the best rod holders money can buy.

Keep those posts coming man!

Skeetmaster , yes Carp was all we used Conroe can be tough to find bait and we always take bait with us and don’t want to spend too much time looking for bait. We have an Asian Market that Carrie’s live Koi Carp , they are not cheap but when only get one day a week to fish .
We were in 25-35 ft along creek channels and ridges.
I am hoping the arctic front drops our temps into the mid to low 50’s that warm up a couple weeks ago didn’t help.

Nice post and fish Dewayne!

Those floats look nice... sure would hurt to hang up and lose them. LOL Did you see any difference or preference on colors? I have wondered that with the foam floats and plastic rattles I use. Have not tested that much, but often wonder.

Looking for a little more rain and cold weather!
