Started off the day at 26 degrees and not wind. Made our way out to start graphing and found fish and bait everywhere. Put out 1 sock and dropped the trolling motor only to find that my quick release pin had some corrosion and wouldn’t work. Pulled the pin and not having any WD-40 on the boat my buddy said try Sun screen, it worked. So now we put out the spread and started pulling. Within 5 minutes my buddy had a new PB of 24#. He was stoked. Kept going and picked up some teeners. Then about 20 minutes of nothing and thinking of reeling in and trying a new drift. Then bam a double with a 16# and a 9#. Then the fishing got hot as we were on top of a huge pile of bait with fish everywhere. A couple fish later my new Mad Katz gets smoked, it was hard to get out of the rod holder, a few minutes later the beast surfaces and we net the 52#. My friend broke his PB several times yesterday and finally ended With a 43#. I ended up catching a second 52# and Travis netted him and we turned around to another rod doubled over. While he was reeling it in, I went ahead and burped the fish and put it back in the net to get him in the water so he wouldn’t die. While I was waiting for Travis to get his fish in, my fish kicked and about took the net out of my hand and he swam out, so not pics of that fish, I was upset but at least I got to weigh him and catch him. We had the best best day ever on my boat. Ended the day With 474# of fish in my boat. We also missed 8-10 big takedowns.
At one time we had a triple of 35, 28, 20 and as soon as we netted the 20 and took a pic a fourth rod went down with another 20.
Ended with:
52, 52, 43, 38, 35, 30, 28, 24, 20, 20, 18, 16, 14, 14, 12, 11, 9, 9, 9, 9, 4, 4, 3
Wind picked up later in the day and I put out my new bass pro 78” sock and it’s doesn’t work near as good as my cabelas. It’s a stiffer material and doesn’t pull right with the cabelas. The cabelas would stay open and pull like supposed to but the basspro would drift back in to the boat. Any suggestions?
